Gizmo is an AI startup on a mission to make learning so easy that anyone can learn anything. We’re building Duolingo for anything - a platform that uses gamification and social mechanics to make learning fun. With over 1 million monthly active users and $4M in annual recurring revenue, we’re already one of the fastest-growing startups in the UK. Backed by leading investors, we recently raised $22M in Series A funding to accelerate our vision of helping 1 billion people learn.

We’re looking for a Staff/Principal level Product Engineer (Individual Contributor) with a focus on frontend development to join our small, highly talented team at Gizmo. While we have a deliberately flat structure, this is a senior, high-impact role for an experienced engineer who can take ownership of major parts of our product and technical direction. You’ll report directly to the CEO, work closely with design and product, and play a key role in shaping the next generation of Gizmo’s learning platform. You’ll do this by owning a slice of the app and iterating fast to build features that delight our users and solve their problems. You’ll be expected to merge to production, review session replays and metrics, then launch new iterations on a daily basis. If you’re looking for a fast-paced, collaborative team during an exciting stage of growth, with plenty of opportunity to make a significant impact and grow, this is the perfect time to join Gizmo and help shape what comes next.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain and own user-facing features with a focus on performance, usability, and delightful interactions across web and mobile platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with designers and product managers to translate Figma designs and product requirements into functional, high-quality code.
  • Contribute across the full stack. While frontend will be your focus, you’ll also work on back-end services and APIs when needed.
  • Own features end-to-end, from technical design and implementation to release, iteration, and ongoing improvement.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical planning, and team stand-ups, helping us maintain a high engineering standard.

Requirements

  • You have front-end development expertise with a solid understanding of full-stack fundamentals, and you’re comfortable tackling any part of the technology stack.
  • You are skilled with React, TypeScript and Tailwind.
  • Preference (not essential) for proficiency with PostgreSQL and are comfortable working with APIs and contributing to back-end logic.
  • Driven by impact - you prioritise work that moves the needle.
  • Self-starter with a maker mindset. We’re looking for ex-founders or individuals with start-up experience.
  • You are a fast learner who’s not afraid of new challenges - you are ambitious and motivated to build something meaningful.
  • Open-minded and feedback-oriented, always striving to learn and improve.
