The predicted salary is between 34000 - 51000 £ per year.

Location: GivEnergy Head Office, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, ST5 9HX. Fully office-based or hybrid 3 days onsite + 2 days WFH.

Salary: £40k – £60k pa depending on experience and qualification level.

Schedule: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.

We’re looking to grow our team with the addition of a Software Engineer. This role will play a key part in the development of a new smart & scalable platform that aims to make grid services accessible to masses & empower energy freedom for all. This is a backend role, where a successful candidate will be supporting & advising the team on how to build high quality, maintainable software within our backend & cloud services.

Building on our existing team’s skills, we’re looking for motivated and passionate Developers who have the flexibility and drive, to work across all elements of our stack to produce the best control software and reporting systems possible for grid flexibility system. Orange Power has been acquired by GivEnergy in 2024. Orange Power is a leading residential/commercial flexibility provider of grid services. We develop and automate tens of thousands of assets with flexibility and trade with grid when it is required.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Working with the team analysing requirements & efficiently building new features with a focus on quality and maintainability.
  • Analyse issues raised and creating releases.
  • Designing, developing and improving automations.
  • Consulting on & executing architectural & tech stack improvements.
  • Maintain system stability and optimise performance in our AWS environment.

What We’re Looking For:

  • >3 years’ development experience.
  • An understanding and competence in:
  • JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js)
  • REST APIs
  • Basic Linux commands (use case: ssh onto a server to run code)
  • MongoDB
  • AWS (RDS, EC2, ECS, S3, Lambda, DNS, Basic Network routing on AWS)
  • Basic Docker understanding
  • VCS (Git)
  • Automation & CI/CD pipelines (Github workflows enough)
  • Authentication protocol understanding eg: Oauth2
  • Developing, testing, and consuming RESTful APIs
  • It would be advantageous if you had some competence in the following:
    • React
    • IoT
    • Redis
    • Python
    • Testing/Unit Testing
