GiveDirectly (GD) is scaling its emergency response operations to deliver rapid cash assistance worldwide in the aftermath of crises. As a Manager on our Humanitarian team, you will design and deliver emergency response programmes, coordinate day‑to‑day operations, and support fundraising through field insights and donor materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute high‑quality program delivery in collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
  • Manage projects and workstreams with a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Support internal and external relationships, including partners, vendors, and donors.
  • Coordinate design, planning, and execution of emergency response operations, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Apply operational playbooks and deployment criteria to rapidly set up response programmes across new countries.
  • Conduct operational diligence, feasibility, and risk assessments for individual disaster responses.
  • Track and report on programme metrics to support learning and performance management.
  • Liaise with partners, vendors, and sub‑grantees to ensure smooth execution.
  • Become an expert in GD’s tech systems (Salesforce, CommCare, Jira, etc.) to support project execution.
  • Manage day‑to‑day activities of designated responses, including field staff tasking and surge team coordination.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to junior staff or surge team members during deployments.
  • Contribute to team goal‑setting, impact tracking, and knowledge sharing.
  • Support new business development, donor reporting, or appeal materials by translating field updates into compelling content.
  • Represent GD in internal and external forums such as Cash Working Groups.
  • Lead ad‑hoc strategy or capability investment projects that advance GD’s global response capacity.

Travel Requirement

Must be able to travel up to 50‑60% of the time, including approximately two times per year for team retreats, and deploy on short notice in response to emergencies. The role may involve travel to potentially insecure areas.

Key Qualifications

  • Exceptional alignment with GD values and demonstrated emotional intelligence, problem‑solving, project management, follow‑through, and inclusivity.
  • 3–5+ years of experience focused on problem‑solving, team management, and/or new business development, including prior humanitarian or emergency experience.
  • Analytical problem‑solving mindset, prioritization framework, and ability to structure ambiguous problems.
  • Strong project management skills, managing multiple workstreams and maintaining a high‑quality bar.
  • Strong technical skills, including data analysis and the ability to learn new third‑party tech platforms.
  • Preference for candidates with partnership and relationship‑management experience in fundraising.
  • Excellent communications skills—speaking, writing, presenting, and negotiating across stakeholders.
  • Ability to orient quickly in new contexts, rapidly understand unfamiliar environments, and set up effective systems in dynamic situations.
  • Enthusiasm for fast‑paced environments lacking defined playbooks, with comfort in ambiguity and building systems from scratch.

Nice to Have

  • Fluency in a language other than English (e.g., French, Portuguese, Arabic).
  • Prior experience with humanitarian cash‑based programming.

Compensation & Benefits

GD adopts a no‑negotiation policy and calculates competitive pay based on role, location, and cost of living using a third‑party salary aggregator. The benefits stipend may be used for benefits or taken as additional taxable income.

United States
