An overview of this role
As a Senior Benefits Analyst on GitLab's Total Rewards team, you'll help design, administer, and improve our global benefits programs. You'll combine hands-on benefits operations with program assessment, vendor and broker partnerships, and cross-functional collaboration to make our offerings market-aligned, compliant, and easy for team members to navigate and use. You'll work across multiple countries and employment models, including professional employer organization (PEO), employer of record (EOR), and GitLab legal entity arrangements, while navigating local requirements and vendor processes. You'll serve as a subject matter expert on core benefits programs and processes, coordinate complex reviews and projects, and turn team member feedback and market data into clear recommendations for Benefits leadership. This role focuses on benefits programs and doesn't include leave administration.
What You'll Do
- Partner with GitLab's global benefits broker and local vendors to lead plan renewals, oversee day-to-day plan operations, manage escalations, implement plan changes, and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead end-to-end implementation of new and enhanced benefits programs, from business cases and vendor selection through configuration, testing, launch communications, and post-launch improvements.
- Manage day-to-day administration for assigned global benefits programs, including eligibility, enrollment, billing, quality assurance, and issue resolution; track and improve enrollment accuracy, billing reconciliation, and issue-resolution times.
- Partner with Payroll, Finance, People Operations, and People Technology to support accurate reporting and compliance.
- Coordinate benefits operations across countries and employment models, including PEO, EOR, and GitLab entity arrangements; work with local vendors, brokers, and internal partners to resolve complex cases and apply relevant local requirements.
- Serve as a point of contact for complex benefits inquiries, partnering with HelpLab and People Operations to triage and resolve cases and use insights to improve plan and process design.
- Analyze benefits utilization, cost, survey, and qualitative data to identify trends, assess plan competitiveness, and develop recommendations and business cases that improve program outcomes.
- Simplify, standardize, and automate benefits processes while keeping the team member experience at the center.
What You'll Bring
- Proven track record owning global benefits programs, including partnership with international brokers and local vendors.
- Strong knowledge of core benefits concepts, such as medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and supplemental benefits, along with familiarity with multi-country environments, including working with PEO and EOR providers and local brokers.
- Experience supporting benefits during country expansions and transitions.
- Experience using human resources information systems and benefits administration tools, with attention to detail in billing reconciliation, data entry, process testing, and quality assurance.
- Strong analytical skills and experience using benefits utilization, cost, and survey data, as well as spreadsheets with lookup formulas and pivot tables, to develop insights and recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to explain complex benefits topics in accessible language, communicate decisions with patience and sound judgment, and collaborate with Payroll, Finance, Legal, People Operations, People Business Partners, and works council representatives.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in an all-remote environment, use software tools and automation to improve processes, work with Git and GitLab whenever possible, and work in accordance with GitLab's values.
- Curiosity about artificial intelligence tools and a willingness to use them to improve benefits work and team processes; Workday experience is strongly preferred.
