We are currently looking for an experienced People Manager to join our Thornbury & Avonmouth site.
Having recently been acquired by Marks & Spencer, Gist is set to benefit from improvements to its supply chain efficiency, with network investment and a new journey to success taking shape.
The People Manager role will play a critical role in ensuring that all employees at the site are treated in a manner that is truly reflective of our values and cultural intention. You will partner the Site General Manager and operate as a true generalist.

What you’ll do:
Your key accountabilities will include:
- Lead the HR strategy for opening Gist’s new flagship site, shaping its culture, workforce, and operational readiness
- Manage the closure of two legacy sites and oversee the smooth transfer of colleagues to the new location
- Drive employee engagement, capability development, and succession planning to build a high-performing, inclusive environment
- Provide expert guidance on employee relations, HR best practices, and day-to-day HR operations.
- Developing and managing the HR Advisors
- supporting with ad-hoc projects such as TUPES, restructures, retention and succession
- Develop, support and deliver employee engagement across the site
- Ensure management team are leading the site in a way that is consistent with our culture and values
- Provide guidance and coaching to management teams to empower managers to make effective people decisions
- Provide advice on all aspects of Company policy, best practice, employee relations and employment law
Who you are:
Your skills and experience will include:
- Significant experience in a HR Management role, ideally within a logistics, retail, FMCG or manufacturing environment
- Experience dealing with complex ER issues
- Ideally have some experience of working within a unionised environment
- Ability to develop HR strategies and deliver change programmes
- Credibility and impact to act as a true business partner to the site management teams
- Excellent leadership and influencing skills
