As the Automation Specialist, you will be responsible for overseeing all automation systems in the network and supporting each Site Engineering Manager (SEM) / Site Automation Manager (SAM) relating to their site automation. You will ensure full compliance with legal requirements and Gist policies. This role is pivotal in aligning and standardising engineering activities with the strategic objectives of the business, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational efficiency for the automation. You will report to the Head of Site Engineering & Facilities and your key stakeholders include the SEM, SAM, Site General Manager (GM), Operations Managers, and the Site Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Manager.

Role Details:
- Salary: Competitive + Bonus
- Hours: 37.5 per week
- Working pattern: Monday to Friday
- Location: Gist Limited - UK Based with travel
What You’ll Do:
- Continuous Improvement: Drive enhancements across all aspects of site automation functionality, using data to improve automation efficiency and overall performance.
- Preventative Maintenance Ownership: Oversee the CMMS preventative maintenance program and ensure automation compliance and standards are upheld.
- Automation Plans: Ensure all automation is well serviced, maintained, compliant with current legislation, and aligned with safety, quality, and financial standards to support optimal site operations.
- Automation Capex Projects: Lead and drive all automation resilience improvement projects from concept through to completion using data where possible to show improvements.
- Engineering Labour Utilisation: Ensure automation labour resources, including recruitment, shift planning, and annual leave coordination, to maintain operational efficiency is optimal.
- Automation Vendors: Lead relationships relating to all things automation to hold accountable.
- Critical Spares Management: Ensure availability and effective management of critical spares to meet SLA requirements. Ensure stock takes and cost tracking for all inventory are completed and held on site.
- SME: Be the escalation point of contact for SAMs/SEMs should breakdowns occur and support where and when required.
- SMS/WMS: Be the SME and point of contact should SMS/WMS require support and seek and highlight improvements where feasible.
Who You Are:
- Proven experience in an automation engineering or maintenance environment
- Background in a large logistics setting is beneficial
- Strong technical ability to identify and evaluate engineering issues and risks, and develop innovative, practical solutions
- Qualified to NVQ Level 3 or higher in a relevant engineering discipline
- Experience working within a unionised organisation is essential
