DEPUTY HEAD (PASTORAL)

Full time permanent post

Highly competitive salary, paid according to experience and qualifications

Required from September 2027

North London Collegiate School invites applications for the role of Deputy Head (Pastoral), a senior leadership position at the heart of the School's commitment to pupil wellbeing, character development and belonging.

At NLCS, pastoral care is centred on developing happy, independent and resilient young women who are confident in themselves and ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges of the world beyond School. Ours is a warm, welcoming and inclusive community in which every pupil is known, valued and supported, and where diversity is celebrated as a source of strength.

We are seeking an outstanding and forward-thinking leader to build on the School's strong pastoral foundations. The pastoral team has benefited from a sustained period of effective and supportive leadership, creating an excellent platform for future development. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the next phase of pastoral provision at NLCS, further strengthening the support available to pupils while working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to develop and articulate the School's approach to character education and its role in preparing young people for lives of purpose, service and fulfilment.

The role carries responsibility as the School's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and requires a deep commitment to safeguarding, wellbeing and inclusion.

As a member of the School's Leadership Team, the Deputy Head (Pastoral) will play a full role in shaping and delivering the School's strategic priorities, supporting the Head and senior colleagues in both long-term planning and the effective management of whole-school operational matters.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an inspirational leader to make a significant and lasting contribution to one of the UK's leading independent schools.

We can offer:

  • A positive working environment within an exceptionally well-resourced school, where excellent relationships between staff and students are the norm, expectations are high and students thrive as a result.
  • Outstanding opportunities for professional growth, including the chance to deepen your knowledge, broaden your experience, share innovative practice and contribute to the development of an ambitious and supportive educational environment.
  • A collaborative and supportive Leadership Team that places the wellbeing of both students and staff at the heart of School life.
  • membership of the Teachers' Pension Scheme
  • free lunches during term time
  • a season ticket loan
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • free use of the swimming pool and fitness suite
  • Cycle to Work and Eye Care schemes
  • fee remission

NLCS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all members of all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must declare any criminal convictions as the post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Appointments will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via the Disclosure and Barring Service and references from previous employers. We are an Equal Opportunities employer.
