The Company
We are recruiting on behalf of a growing and well‑established engineering and fabrication business based in Winkleigh, Devon. This specialist company designs, manufactures and installs bespoke stainless steel process systems and structural solutions for major food production and industrial sites across the South West. With a strong pipeline of secured work, continued investment in its facilities and the launch of a new laser cutting operation, the business is entering an exciting new phase of growth. As part of this expansion, they are looking to appoint a Workshop Administrator to become a key part of the operational team.
This is a varied and important position supporting the smooth day‑to‑day running of the workshop, procurement and production processes.
The Role
Working closely with the management team, workshop staff and laser cutting division, you will play a central role in keeping operations organised, efficient and running smoothly. This is far more than a traditional administration role. You will be heavily involved in stock control, purchasing, supplier coordination, job tracking and supporting invoicing processes across a busy engineering environment. The successful Workshop Administrator will help ensure materials, consumables and information are always in place to support fabrication and welding activities without delays or downtime. Key Responsibilities
- Manage stock levels and ordering processes for workshop materials and consumables
- Coordinate with workshop and project teams regarding upcoming jobs and material requirements
- Place, track and receive supplier orders
- Monitor deliveries, resolve supplier queries and handle returns where required
- Support the development and day‑to‑day running of the new laser cutting operation
- Assist with job costing, invoice preparation and purchase invoice processing using Xero
- Allocate costs to specific projects and maintain accurate records
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies
- Work closely with workshop staff to support production planning and operational efficiency
- Provide general business and administrative support to the wider management team
About You
We are looking for somebody organised, proactive and commercially aware who enjoys being involved in the operational side of a business. You may currently be working as:
- Workshop Administrator
- Purchasing Administrator
- Production Administrator
- Accounts Assistant
- Buyer or Assistant Buyer
- Operations Administrator
- Stock or Materials Controller
You will ideally offer:
- Previous experience within engineering, manufacturing, construction or fabrication environments
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Experience dealing with suppliers, purchasing or stock control
- Confidence using systems such as Xero or similar accounting software
- Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with operational teams
- A practical and solutions‑focused approach
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities within a busy environment
