We are seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to oversee the engineering delivery on a flagship civil engineering project in Britain’s Ocean City. This is a high-profile opportunity to take technical ownership of engineering works across a nationally significant infrastructure scheme, ensuring the highest standards of quality, compliance and engineering excellence are achieved.

The Client & Project
Our client is a highly respected civil engineering contractor with an excellent reputation across the marine, water, environmental infrastructure and energy sectors. Known for delivering technically challenging projects to the highest standards, they work with major public and private sector clients and have built a strong reputation for quality and repeat business. They are currently delivering a major infrastructure project in Plymouth, involving heavy reinforced concrete structures and complex marine works.
The Role
As Lead Engineer, you will take responsibility for overseeing engineering activities across multiple work sections, ensuring works are delivered in line with design specifications, engineering standards and project requirements. You will act as the key technical authority on site, supporting the delivery teams while reviewing and verifying engineering works. Your role will include mentoring engineers, checking engineering outputs and ensuring the highest standards of delivery across the project.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing engineering works across multiple sections of the project
- Checking and verifying setting out, reinforcement placement and installation works
- Reviewing engineering documentation, drawings and technical submissions
- Ensuring works comply with approved structural drawings and specifications
- Supporting site teams with technical guidance and engineering problem-solving
- Mentoring and supporting site engineers across the project
- Acting as the technical link between site engineering teams and project management
- Ensuring engineering works meet quality, safety and compliance standards
- Supporting inspection processes and engineering sign-off
About You
This role would suit an experienced Site or Section Engineer looking to step into a technical leadership role, or an experienced Lead / Quality-focused Engineer with a strong reinforced concrete background. We are looking for someone with:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Site Engineer, Section Engineer or Quality Engineer
- Strong experience delivering heavy civil engineering projects involving reinforced concrete structures
- Experience working in technically demanding or regulated environments
- Strong understanding of engineering compliance and quality-driven delivery
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to mentor engineering teams
- HNC / HND (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Ability to obtain SC Security Clearance
Experience within nuclear or similarly regulated environments would be advantageous but is not essential.
