Pre-Construction Director – South West Bristol | to £130,000 + Car/Allowance + Up to 30% Annual Bonus + Package An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Pre-Construction Director to take a senior regional leadership position with one of the UK’s largest and most established construction groups. Based from Bristol and covering the South West, you’ll join a business with considerable scale, a strong regional presence and an established track record of delivering complex building projects across both the public and private sectors. The business delivers new-build, refurbishment, extension and repurposing projects across sectors including education, healthcare, commercial, leisure, cultural and wider public-sector developments, with a significant proportion of its workload secured through long-term frameworks and repeat client relationships. This is a key position within the regional senior management team, reporting directly to the Regional Director and taking overall responsibility for the pre-construction function across the South West. The Role As Pre-Construction Director, you’ll lead a multidisciplinary team of approximately 20 people, bringing together: Business Development Managers Pre-Construction Managers Design Managers Commercial professionals Your remit extends well beyond managing individual bids. You’ll help determine which opportunities the region pursues, shape project strategies from the earliest stages and ensure the right commercial, design and delivery thinking is brought together before projects reach site. Working closely with the Regional Director and wider senior leadership team, you’ll also contribute to the overall direction, operational planning and future pipeline of the regional construction business. Key responsibilities will include: Leading all pre-construction activity across the South West region Developing and implementing regional pre-construction and work-winning strategy Supporting business development, marketing and the early identification of suitable opportunities Building and maintaining relationships with clients, consultants and key stakeholders Developing collaborative procurement opportunities and long-term client relationships Establishing individual project pursuit and tender strategies alongside the senior management team Overseeing PQQs, tenders and major quality submissions Managing the tender governance process and ensuring submissions meet the required commercial and quality standards Coordinating input across commercial, design, pre-construction and business development functions Influencing buildability, programme, risk, sustainability and Health & Safety during the pre-construction phase Developing, mentoring and providing leadership to the wider pre-construction team About You This role requires an established construction leader with substantial experience of pre-construction within a Tier 1 or major main contracting environment. You’ll need experience leading teams through complex tenders and major building projects, ideally with exposure to schemes valued at up to £200m. The successful Pre-Construction Director is likely to demonstrate: Considerable pre-construction experience with a major main contractor A track record of leading multidisciplinary pre-construction and tender teams Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of risk throughout the tender process Experience across both public and private-sector procurement Good knowledge of construction frameworks and collaborative procurement routes The ability to engage credibly with clients, consultants and senior internal stakeholders Strong leadership and people-development capability A detailed understanding of how early design and pre-construction decisions influence Health & Safety and project performance The ability to operate effectively within a fast-moving, deadline-driven environment Degree-level qualification or equivalent CIOB membership or an equivalent professional qualification Why Consider It?
