We’re looking to appoint an experienced Freelance Foreman to join a major heavy civil engineering scheme based near Bridgwater. The project is well underway and programmed to run through to 2027/28, offering excellent continuity of work.
The scheme is split across multiple work sections and includes:
- Sheet piling
- Major earthworks
- River re-alignments
- Bridges and viaducts
It’s a varied, technically interesting project with plenty going on day to day — ideal for a foreman who likes to stay busy and in control of their section.
As Foreman, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day running of site activities, leading operatives and subcontractors and ensuring works are carried out safely, efficiently and to programme. You’ll act as the link between site operatives, engineering and management, spotting issues early and keeping standards high.
Key Duties Will Include:
- Leading daily site operations across heavy civils and earthworks works
- Delivering toolbox talks and daily briefings
- Carrying out site inductions
- Maintaining rigorous control of site safety
- Ensuring all operatives are wearing and using the correct PPE
- Monitoring construction activities and identifying potential issues early
- Liaising closely with Site Engineers around setting out, quality or buildability concerns
- Working with the site maintenance team to resolve plant and equipment issues
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping, ensuring a tidy, organised and safe site
- Supporting site management in driving productivity and programme
We’re looking for an experienced Foreman with a strong background in heavy civil engineering and earthworks, ideally gained on large, complex projects. You’ll bring experience of one or more of the following:
- Major highways projects
- Water or wastewater treatment works
- Flood alleviation schemes
- Major earthworks
And you’ll also have:
- Proven experience in a Foreman / General Foreman role
- A strong safety-first mindset
- The confidence to manage people, standards and site discipline
- Clear communication skills and a practical, hands-on approach
- Ability to commute to the Bridgwater area
- Full UK driving licence
- Right to live and work in the UK
Rate & Package:
£325 – £350 per day (plus holiday pay), depending on experience. Long-term freelance role with excellent continuity. All site kit and equipment provided.
