An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering a long-term framework programme across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. Based from the Exeter office with hybrid working as standard, this is a key leadership role offering the chance to take ownership of an established commercial team and play a major part in the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects ranging from £1m to £20m in value.
The Opportunity
As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you'll inherit and lead a team of six commercial professionals, ranging from Assistant Quantity Surveyors through to Senior Quantity Surveyors. Working closely with operational and senior leadership teams, you'll provide commercial direction across multiple live projects while supporting the ongoing development and growth of your team. Key Responsibilities
- Leading, mentoring and developing a team of six commercial staff
- Providing commercial oversight across a portfolio of civil engineering projects
- Managing subcontractor accounts and commercial performance
- Supporting commercial strategy and business objectives
- Overseeing valuations, applications and project reporting
- Producing and reviewing CVRs across multiple projects
- Managing commercial risk and opportunity registers
- Resolving client and subcontractor commercial matters
- Reviewing contracts and ensuring robust commercial governance
- Driving cost control, forecasting and profitability across the framework
About You
We'd love to hear from experienced Managing Quantity Surveyors or Senior Quantity Surveyors who have already gained exposure to managing or mentoring team members and are ready to progress into a broader leadership role. You'll ideally have:
- Experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or utilities environments
- Strong working knowledge of NEC ECC3 and NEC ECC4 contracts
- Previous responsibility for managing, mentoring or developing junior surveyors
- Experience delivering projects ranging from £1m - £20m
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach
- Relevant degree qualification or equivalent industry experience
- Full UK Driving Licence
