The Company

A well-established multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy based in the South West is continuing to grow and is now seeking a Senior Geotechnical / Geo-Environmental Engineer to join its collaborative team. Working across some of the region’s most interesting and technically challenging sites, this consultancy is trusted to deliver geotechnical and environmental solutions for projects shaped by coastline, landscape and complex ground conditions. Their work ranges from bespoke residential and commercial developments to infrastructure, coastal and environmentally sensitive schemes, often requiring close collaboration with civil and structural teams. This is a business that values technical rigour, professional judgement and engineers who enjoy variety rather than repetitive, volume-led work.

The Role

As a Senior Geotechnical / Geo-Environmental Engineer, you’ll take a lead role in project delivery while supporting and mentoring junior colleagues. You’ll be involved from early site appraisal through to reporting and construction support, working on projects where ground conditions genuinely matter. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, procuring and managing ground investigations including boreholes, trial pits, windowless sampling and in-situ testing
  • Interpreting geotechnical data to support civil and structural design
  • Logging to BS5930 and sampling soils, rocks and groundwater
  • Delivering contaminated land assessments from Phase I to Phase IV
  • Developing conceptual site models and undertaking qualitative and quantitative risk assessments
  • Producing environmental documentation including CEMPs, MMPs, earthworks specifications and waste classification plans
  • Ground gas and groundwater monitoring, analysis and interpretation
  • Preparing and reviewing clear, high-quality technical reports
  • Ensuring compliance with CDM, H&S and environmental permitting requirements
  • Liaising with clients, regulators, contractors and stakeholders
  • Working closely with civil and structural engineers on integrated, multi-disciplinary schemes

About You

We’re looking for a capable and motivated Senior Geotechnical / Geo-Environmental Engineer who brings:

  • A degree in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or similar
  • Typically 3–5 years’ experience in a geotechnical or geo-environmental role
  • Chartered status preferred, but not essential for strong candidates
  • Experience managing site works and producing technical reports
  • Good knowledge of relevant British Standards, Eurocodes and environmental legislation
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a wider project team
  • High technical standards, attention to detail and strong communication skills
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office
  • A commitment to CPD and keeping up with industry best practice
  • A full UK driving licence

What’s On Offer

  • Salary: £40,000 – £55,000 (depending on experience)
  • Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (part-time considered)
  • Hybrid working
  • Holiday: 28 days annual leave plus 8 Bank Holidays
  • Training & Progression
  • Full support toward Chartership or Incorporated status
  • Structured one-to-one mentoring
  • Regular development and progression reviews
  • Financial support for external training and industry events
  • In-house CPD covering technical and professional skills
  • Clear, achievable career pathways
