Job Purpose
The General Operative is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the business by carrying out a range of manual, operational and general duties. The successful candidate will help maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment, ensure tasks are completed efficiently, and support the wider team in meeting operational targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general manual handling and operational duties as required.
- Assist with the loading, unloading, moving and storage of materials, goods or equipment.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and organised working area.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and team leaders to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Operate basic machinery, tools or equipment where trained and authorised.
- Assist with the preparation, sorting, packing and movement of products or materials.
- Complete routine checks and report any faults, damage or safety concerns.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, health and safety requirements, and safe working practices.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
- Work effectively as part of a team to achieve daily operational targets.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties relevant to the role.
Skills and Experience
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- A reliable, punctual and hardworking attitude.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently when required.
- Good attention to detail and a willingness to learn new tasks.
- Ability to undertake physical work, including lifting and moving materials, where required and in accordance with safe handling procedures.
- Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.
- Awareness of health and safety practices.

Health and Safety
The General Operative must comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and company procedures, report hazards or incidents promptly, and use equipment and PPE correctly. All tasks must be carried out in accordance with the training and instructions provided.
Working Conditions
The role may involve working in a warehouse, factory, workshop, construction site or other operational environment. The position may require standing for extended periods, manual handling, working shifts and performing physically demanding tasks, depending on business requirements.
