This role serves as the GMAVI coordinator to harmonize strategy, planning and execution of medical society engagement and cross-functional congress plans across GMAVI therapeutic areas and geographies. The role operates as a senior individual contributor and partners closely with medical affairs and cross‑functional stakeholders to maximize the strategic impact and return on investment of GMAVI’s congress and society engagements. The successful candidate will be a strategic and creative thinker with a track record of execution success, cross-functional leadership, and partnership, with the ability to foster an inclusive environment and with an enterprise mindset. This role will be the primary liaison between GMAVI and the Congress Center of Excellence within Global Commercial Strategic Operations, driving alignment, transparency, and effective decision‑making across a complex, matrixed environment.

Specific Job Requirements:

  • Coordinate the development of a clear GMAVI multi-year medical society and congress strategy, aligned to global priorities across Virology and Inflammation and in close collaboration with the global medical affairs and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the development of clear cross-functional congress objectives for prioritized congresses across GMAVI, aligned with XF conference strategy and in collaboration with global medical affairs, execution teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary GMAVI liaison to priority global medical societies, providing a single, coherent point of coordination for strategy, engagement principles, and governance alignment.
  • Act as an advisor for the GMSO team to coordinate funding opportunities across societies aligned with strategy.
  • Serve as the primary GMAVI interface to the Congress Center of Excellence within Global Commercial Strategic Operations, ensuring strong cross‑functional alignment and clear operating models for congresses.
  • Provide clarity on leadership expectations for Gilead’s presence at prioritized congresses across GMAVI.
  • Act as a facilitator for congress and society prioritization, trade‑offs, and strategic approaches, with advice from cross-functional and GMA stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic oversight and guidance to reduce duplication, friction, and late‑stage escalation related to congress planning and engagement.
  • Establish and steward standards, governance, and ways of working for Tier 1 congresses and associated societies.
  • Partner with GMA and cross-functional conference leads to ensure Tier 1 conference tactics are planned and executed in line with strategy.
  • Translate learnings and insights from congresses and societies into strategic considerations for future GMAVI medical planning and alignment.

Education & Experience:

  • Extensive experience within Medical Affairs or closely related functions in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Demonstrated ownership of global scientific congress strategy and engagement.
  • Proven experience establishing or operating within congress governance, standards, or center‑of‑excellence models.
  • Comfortable with uncertainty and change, and willing to drive change amongst teams that include numerous cross-functional senior leaders.
  • Track record of effective external engagement with senior medical societies or congress bodies.

Travel: Moderate global travel (~20%), with increased activity during major congress periods.
