Overview
In this role you will lead transportation sourcing and supplier management to deliver cost savings, improved quality and service. You will partner with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to shape category strategies and procurement plans that align with Gilead’s priorities. The role emphasizes supplier diversity, sustainability, and continuous improvement across logistics and procurement. You will influence decisions through data-driven analysis and strong stakeholder collaboration, making a measurable impact on cost, reliability and capability at scale.
Responsibilities
- Lead transportation sourcing events and competitive bidding processes with cross-functional teams
- Develop category strategies to improve cost, quality, and service; explore standardization and supplier consolidation
- Collaborate across Global Logistics to align requirements with business priorities and plan actions
- Define performance metrics and supplier objectives with internal leadership
- Integrate diversity and sustainability into procurement value proposition
- Expand carrier relationships and optimize freight capacity and service
- Create tender roadmaps and multi-year cost improvement plans
- Classify suppliers and manage relationships to drive continuous improvement
- Coordinate with Planning and Logistics to optimize network storage and freight
- Engage in budgeting to support financial goals
- Drive year-over-year improvements in key category metrics
- Lead sourcing strategies, vendor selection, contract negotiation, and supplier relationship management
- Monitor procurement and logistics KPIs to meet total cost of ownership and SLAs
- Focus on continuous improvement and supplier development using market and performance data
- Leverage e-tools, ERP systems, and analytics to support decision-making and automation
Key requirements
- 7+ years of experience with BS/BA in related fields or 5+ years with MA/MS or MBA
- Proven track record in logistics procurement, category management, or supply chain leadership
- Experience with transportation, warehousing, and related categories
- Strategic thinking, data-driven decision-making, negotiation, risk management, sustainability/ESG awareness
- Strong analytical skills and ability to translate data into opportunities
- In-depth procurement principles and industry practices
- Proven negotiator balancing commercial objectives with supplier relationships
- Experience with procurement/spend systems data and analysis
- Experience leading multiple projects/teams in a matrixed organization
