Job Description
Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. Gilead's portfolio of products and pipeline of investigational drugs includes treatments for HIV/AIDS, liver diseases, cancer, inflammatory and respiratory diseases, and cardiovascular conditions.
The Senior Manager (Sr.) IT Engineering is a technical role which reports to the Director of IT Systems Engineering and works directly with the Director and Facilities team in the assessment, design and implementation of key IT and Audio Visual Facilities build out projects throughout Gilead and its Kite entity. This position is specific to the EMEA region. With the expansion of projects within EMEA and the overall lease cycle affecting Gilead sites in EMEA, the position of Sr. Manager IT Engineering takes on a larger role in the successful execution of projects within the region. The fulfillment of this role will allow for this individual contributor to develop a stronger relationship with the business (Facilities and end-user groups) in improving the overall design, assessment, coordination and deployment of new and existing network and audio visual systems to support business operations of Gilead departments and staff. This position will work closely with the Director of IT Systems Engineering (IT Facilities) and ITPMO on the planning and delivery of key projects. In addition, the role will also be responsible for maintenance, compliance and support of Facilities' application platforms supported under the umbrella of this team.
Key Accountability
- Business Partnership: Develop effective and broad trusted strategic relationships with key Gilead business partners (Facilities and Engineering) and users on the basis of strong communication skills, credibility and expertise in matters related to IT Systems Engineering and physical infrastructure services to bring solutions to business partners in a collaborative environment.
- Strategic Planning: The Sr. Manager IT Engineering must possess strong communication skills and must be savvy working with both technology and business partners across the organization in a collaborative way. The Sr. Manager IT Engineering will have a strong understanding of network, server/storage topology, and audio visual (AV), along with an understanding of facilities related projects to provide network and AV solutions for any given project. The Sr. Manager IT Engineering will prepare project team and steering committee materials (business cases and project assessments) related to their assigned region. The Sr. Manager IT Engineering will also ensure project work complies with established practices, standards, policies, and processes.
- Risk Mitigation Planning: The Sr. Manager IT Engineering must be able to work with the project management team to identify issues and risks and work with and support the team to develop solutions to resolve issues in the development and deployment of network services within the Gilead Enterprise of locations. The Sr. Manager IT Engineering as delivery lead will confirm that all processes, including architectural reviews, gate reviews, knowledge transition and change controls are followed in compliance with Gilead approved process and that validation, commissioning and qualification documentation is followed in line with IT infrastructure deployments.
- Business Continuity: Provide responsive leadership and guidance in the coordination and communication of IT infrastructure activities and status back to senior management. Ensure alignment of IT planning with business objectives. Ensure the effective monitoring, tracking and reporting of the approved "ITAC road map" projects with business partners to ensure the execution of projects on time and budget. The role will additionally act as delivery lead and focus on managing system and application support following deployment and production environments. This will involve being able to coordinate and direct vendors in support of said systems and applications.
- General Leadership and Management: The Sr. Manager IT Engineering must be comfortable with ambiguity and have a strong ability to bring order and discipline to projects that engage many stakeholders and delivery partners. The role will focus on managing the roadmap of projects that will enhance the capabilities of our data ecosystem, with focus on network and AV facilities build-outs for the specific region assigned. Experience in working in network and facilities environments and the ability to work with applications such as Microsoft Suite of applications, SAP, Autodesk ACAD, Adobe Acrobat, and Clarity including an understanding and use of AI technology. Ensure effective leadership, teamwork and collaboration with Business partners and other IT leaders, managers and staff across IT to achieve a high level of success in delivering approved road map projects. Lead continuous improvements to drive more efficient processes and standards within IT Infrastructure and the business users IT supports.
