Gigged.AI is an On-Demand Talent Platform specialising in the IT and technology sector. We have an opportunity live at the moment for an OpenShift Administrator (Lifecycle / Platform Operations) with one of our enterprise clients.
Start: ASAP
Duration: 6 months rolling (likely 1–2 years)

Location: Hybrid – 2 days/week onsite in Sheffield initially (may reduce to a few days/month)
Overview
We’re seeking an experienced Senior OpenShift Administrator/Platform Engineer to support the lifecycle management and operational stability of OpenShift clusters across on-premise and hybrid environments. This hands-on role focuses on Day-2 operations, upgrades, patching, monitoring, security, and platform reliability, working closely with DevOps and infrastructure teams.
Key Responsibilities
- OpenShift Lifecycle Management
- Manage full lifecycle of OpenShift clusters (OCP 4.x)
- Perform upgrades, patching, and vulnerability remediation
- Execute operational runbooks: node maintenance, certificate rotation, platform add-on management
- Conduct platform health checks and preventative maintenance
- Platform Reliability & Observability
- Operate monitoring using Prometheus, Grafana, and/or ELK
- Build dashboards, tune alerts, and proactively resolve issues
- Troubleshoot workloads and cluster services to ensure availability
- Support capacity planning and performance optimisation
- Incident Management & Troubleshooting
- Provide L2/L3 platform support for incidents
- Conduct root cause analysis and lead service restoration
- Contribute to post-incident reviews and runbook improvements
- Participate in an on-call rota where required
- Security, Governance & Compliance
- Manage platform networking, storage, and security configurations
- Implement RBAC, namespace governance, and security policies
- Support audit and compliance evidence for regulated environments
- Automation & Infrastructure as Code
- Develop automation using Terraform, Ansible, or similar
- Standardise cluster provisioning and operational workflows
- Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines
- Collaboration & Documentation
- Work with DevOps, infrastructure, and engineering teams to support platform adoption
- Produce clear operational documentation, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides
Required Experience
- Hands-on experience administering OpenShift / OCP 4.x, including cluster operations, upgrades, patching, and troubleshooting
- Experience running OpenShift in on-premise and/or hybrid environments
- Knowledge of container platform networking, storage, and security
- Observability experience with Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK
- Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, Ansible, or similar)
- Comfortable working in large enterprise environments with structured operational processes
Nice to Have
- Experience in regulated or highly controlled environments
- Broader DevOps platform engineering experience
- CI/CD integration of container platforms
