At Gigaton, we’re on a mission to cut gigatonnes of carbon emissions from the world’s biggest emitting industries (like cement, steel and glass), by building autonomous AI control and optimisation systems that learn and leverage the physics of manufacturing. Our products run heavy industrial plants more efficiently, more stably, and with lower emissions in real time - laying the foundation for the next industrial revolution.
We are a team of scientists, engineers, builders, and operators who love hard problems, have high standards, and want to make change happen in the physical world. We care about deep tech, but we care even more about whether it delivers cost and carbon impact in a live plant, with real people, under real constraints.
With Gigaton, you’ll solve really tough problems in places few people ever get close to, and build something that actually helps the planet. Are you up for the challenge?
About the role: We’re looking for a Principal Product Manager to join our product team, reporting to the Head of Product. You’ll be based in London, hybrid with three days a week in the office, plus regular travel to plants. We’re a Series A company of 30+ people. We raised $26M in a round led by Plural, alongside 2150, Semapa Next and Planet A Ventures.
You’ll be the first senior PM hire at Gigaton. You are not joining a polished product function. You are helping build it, while doing the job itself. That means shaping our standards, our judgment, our ways of working, our hiring bar, and the kind of product organisation we become.
You’ll work across the roadmap, from industry applications to deployment, user experience, and the core AI and control capability. You’ll help us decide what to build, why it matters, and what good looks like when the product meets the real world.
This role needs product judgment, customer empathy, commercial instinct, and enough technical depth to work credibly across engineering and plant stakeholders. You’ll help define and deliver the AI control and optimisation product that will power more autonomous and efficient industrial plants.
Over time, you should raise the product bar across the company, make the people around you better, and help build a product organisation that strong people actively want to join.
Your main responsibilities:
- Own product discovery and definition for new AI capabilities and features, from early problem framing through launch.
- Collaborate with research, deployment and engineering teams to turn AI into valuable product capabilities.
- Get things build-ready: produce specs, briefs, and decision frameworks that engineers and agents can pick up and execute from.
- Work closely with customers to understand pain points, test prototypes, and validate solutions in the real world.
- Partner with the commercial team on deals, proposals, go-to-market, and product positioning.
- Communicate product direction clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to building the PM function, including ways of working, craft standards, and hiring bar.
What a great fit looks like:
- You’ve built a product from scratch, or taken one from zero to one in a space without a clear playbook.
- You’ve shipped in complex, technical environments where the stakes are real and the constraints are messy.
- You have deep empathy for users with hard, specialised jobs, especially operational or technical users unlike yourself.
- You have a practical grasp of physics, process engineering, and technical systems or a track record of getting deep in unfamiliar technical domains fast, and can work credibly with engineers and scientists.
- You know the difference between the user and the buyer. You can shape strategy, positioning and customer conversations to create real user value and win enterprise deals.
- You’ve mentored others and can get the best out of engineers and cross-functional teams, with or without formal authority.
- You communicate clearly, think sharply, and bring structure to ambiguity.
You’ll excel if you are:
- Using AI tools to amplify your judgment, not replace it. You can direct agents to do the execution-heavy work so you stay focused on the thinking.
- Willing to travel to plants and do the unglamorous work needed to build something great.
- Excited by hard problems, fast learning, and getting close to customers.
We’re building a team that reflects the world we want to change. Our people come from all walks of life - different countries, cultures and experiences - and we think that’s one of our biggest strengths. We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels safe, respected and celebrated. No matter your background, if you’re excited by what we do, we want to hear from you.
In return for your hard work, we’ll give you:
- Equity in the company: When we win, you win. You’ll get share options, so you’re part of our journey from the inside.
- Flexible working: We trust you to know how and when you work best and to work that out with your team.
- 30 days of holiday: Rest is productive. Take the time you need to recharge.
- A generous pension scheme: We’re planning for the future in more ways than one.
Our Operating Principles:
- Go Gig or Go Home: High Bar, All In. What we do matters to humanity, to our customers and to each other. We hold ourselves to an extraordinarily high bar and bring the urgency this mission requires.
- Concrete Honesty: Be honest. As concrete forms the foundation of our world, genuine honesty and transparency are the bedrock of our culture.
- Autonomous Ownership: High agency, high ownership. We build systems that take control and make things better. We do the same: see it, own it, drive it.
- Cement it with Kindness & Fun: Have fun, be kind. We're here to extend Earth's life, but ours is still limited. We want to enjoy the ride.
