Hales Valley Multi Academy Trust is a primary academy trust based in Dudley, West Midlands, consisting of seven primary schools.

The Role: Level 3 Teaching Assistant Pastoral & ELSA Support

In this role, you will deliver ELSA programmes and targeted emotional literacy interventions to individuals and small groups of pupils, helping to develop emotional wellbeing, resilience and social skills. You will provide support for pupils who may be emotionally vulnerable, including those experiencing anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, low self-esteem or social challenges.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide regular pastoral mentoring, emotional check‑ins and targeted support for identified pupils.
  • Support pupils experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) or those at risk of school refusal, working closely with the Pastoral Lead.
  • Help identify and reduce barriers to engagement, learning and attendance.
  • Work alongside teachers to support pupils within the classroom when required.
  • Provide support within the autism base during allocated times and in response to operational needs.

You will be appointed on Grade 5, working 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, on a permanent contract. Your working pattern will be discussed at interview stage. Actual salary: £20,019 - £21,820 per annum.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Have CACHE Level 3 in Teaching and Learning or an equivalent recognised EYFS DFE qualification.
  • Have experience of supporting pupils with emotional, behavioural or social needs.
  • Have ELSA training (or willingness to undertake ELSA training).
  • Be an effective practitioner with the ability and desire to improve practice.
  • Have high expectations of yourself and others.
  • Have a proven record of working in partnership with class teachers resulting in good attainment and progress for children.
  • Have experience of working with pupils on a 1:1 basis.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be highly organised, motivated and flexible with the ability to inspire and challenge children.
  • Be able to promote the vision and values of the school, demonstrating high professional standards.
