This is predominately a remote role with occasional visits to Uxbridge.
As the Mobile Platform Product Manager, you’ll own the strategic vision and roadmap for giffgaff’s core mobile platform – the engine that powers customer acquisition, provisioning, real‑time rating and charging, and the event‑driven systems that keep our services running. You’ll shape a suite of internal microservices and APIs that underpin every member‑facing journey, working closely with product teams to ensure they have the flexibility to innovate, launch new propositions, and meet future business needs. Your leadership will directly influence the reliability, scalability, and performance of the platform that enables giffgaff to grow.
In this role, you’ll collaborate deeply with cross‑functional stakeholders, Mobile SMEs, and key third‑party partners – including our outsourced Online Charging System provider – to deliver a platform that’s robust, secure, and ready for what’s next. You’ll translate business goals into clear backlog items, steer end‑to‑end delivery, and champion operational excellence through strong monitoring, documentation, and incident management. Success means ensuring the integrity of real‑time charging and rating, maintaining a high‑performing team, and building a platform that consistently empowers the wider organisation to deliver great experiences for our members.
Who we are
Do you want to join a telecoms company that’s up to good? At giffgaff we do mobile differently. We call out the bad and find a better way. We’re laser‑focused on flexibility, value and mutual good.
And we’re so proud to be a certified B Corp. This means we\’ve joined a network of more than 1,000 UK companies, who want to make a positive impact on people and the planet. Working at giffgaff is something you could be proud of too.
You’ll get the best of both worlds, the energy and fast pace of giffgaff, plus all the benefits that come with being part of our parent company, Virgin Media O2.
Our business model is unique. We work with our members (our customers) to understand their needs in all areas of the business. We love this highly collaborative approach. Over the past few years our member base has grown steadily, and we’re still going. We’re always looking to acquire new members, and to do that we need the best people in our team.
Our bright and modern gaff is in Uxbridge, in leafy West London. But if commuting isn’t your favourite, most of our roles can be hybrid or work from home, or anywhere in between. If you like coming in, you’ll always find some office buddies. And if you like big occasions, we really bring the office to life monthly for our themed culture days.
The must haves
- Strong experience in product management, product ownership, or business analysis, including experience in telecom platforms, MVNO/MNO BSS, or other high‑volume transactional environments.
- Experience working closely with technical delivery teams, with confidence engaging in technical discussions and architectural decisions.
- Solid understanding of mobile rating and charging flows, including provisioning, usage processing, session control, and associated financial impacts.
- Strong expertise in revenue management, particularly OCS, rating engines, and BSS integrations.
- Proven ability to translate complex business needs into clear, prioritised technical requirements.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior non‑technical and commercial stakeholders.
The other stuff we are looking for
- Not a hands‑on technical role, but a strong grasp of the high‑level architecture and components of a light MVNO is desirable.
- High‑level understanding of event streaming or message‑queueing technologies (e.g., Kafka) from a data‑consumption perspective.
- Solid financial awareness, including platform cost management, capacity planning, and ROI for infrastructure investments.
- Proficient with Jira, Confluence, and Lucidchart.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements affecting mobile platform data (e.g., SOX, PSD2, GDPR, lawful intercept).
- Understanding of key mobile concepts such as MSISDN, VoLTE, and 5G NSA.
