Overview

Assistant Store Manager – New Store Opening at Gieves & Hawkes, Bath. This role supports the Store Manager in day-to-day management as the new store opens, focusing on establishing a new team, driving customer service, retail standards, and profitability. Deputising for the Store Manager in their absence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Targets: To assist the Store Manager in communicating financial targets to the team; support the sales team in achieving targets; support the SM in improving performance through business development and relationship building; complete weekly trade report; ensure tailoring related costs are kept in line and act on escalations.
  • Team Management: manage the sales floor performance across service, brand awareness, product knowledge and visual merchandising standards; ensure garment alterations are carried out correctly and costs charged; participate in weekly meetings; develop weekly training; support recruitment, induction, training, discipline, and appraisals; communicate with HR; ensure staff present the company image; manage performance with escalation as needed.
  • Stock Management and Security: daily floor walks; maintain stock levels and replenishment; manage theft risks; assist weekly cycle counts and escalate; oversee scheduling and store recovery; ensure the shop layout is commercially led; ensure store opens/closes securely; support in-store events.
  • Customer Service: lead by example, handle enquiries promptly within 24 hours; ensure professional written communications; review and improve service standards; resolve problems and troubleshoot as needed.
  • General: undertake other duties as needed; entrepreneurial approach to building the Bath business; develop networking to grow client base.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in luxury retail, ideally menswear, at a Department Manager/Assistant Manager level or store manager of a smaller store. Clear, concise, polite communication essential.
  • Passionate about tailoring with a desire to expand knowledge.
  • Proficient in English, both verbal and written.
  • Able to work under pressure, manage multiple scenarios, and find solutions.
  • Immaculately presented; punctual, flexible, and able to adapt to business needs at short notice.

Additional Information

  • Basic rate salary £28,500 – £31,500 per annum depending on experience
