Health, Safety & Compliance Officer

Salary: £35,000 – £42,500 (DOE)
Hours: 08:00 – 16:30, Monday to Friday
Location: Office-based with regular site visits
Gibson STS Ltd is a third-generation, family-run business with a 90% staff retention rate. We invest heavily in training and development and are now looking for a Health, Safety & Compliance Officer to strengthen our team.
The role
You’ll be the key person for health, safety and compliance across the business, with a particular focus on:
- Writing, reviewing and maintaining RAMS for our projects
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with our accreditations (ISO, Constructionline, CHAS, Achilles etc.)
- Carrying out site visits, audits and inspections
- Supporting incident investigations and continuous improvement
- Helping to write and support tenders, especially H&S and compliance sections
This is mainly an office-based role, with regular site visits for inspections and support.
What you’ll do
- Prepare, review and update RAMS tailored to specific sites and activities
- Support and develop health & safety policies, procedures and systems
- Coordinate documentation and evidence for external audits and accreditations
- Conduct site inspections, produce reports and follow up on actions
- Provide day-to-day H&S/compliance advice to managers and engineers
- Contribute to PQQs and tender submissions from a H&S/compliance perspective
What you’ll bring
Essential
- NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent)
- Significant experience in construction / M&E / gas or related industry
- Good working knowledge of: HSWA, MHSWR, GSIUR, PSSR, CDM 2015, PUWER, LOLER, COSHH
- IOSH membership (TechIOSH or working towards)
- Proven experience producing RAMS and conducting audits / site inspections
- Strong communication skills with engineers, supervisors and clients
- Good IT skills (Word, Excel etc.)
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate and/or NEBOSH Diploma
- Confined space, working at height, asbestos awareness, lifting operations awareness
- Internal auditor qualification (ISO 45001 / 9001 / 14001)
- Hands-on background in gas, HVAC, renewables or building services
- Experience contributing to tender writing or PQQs
