Pyroban is a worldwide company offering explosion protection solutions for the materials handling and oil and gas industries. For over 50 years, we have been at the forefront of our industry developing solutions to help us achieve our one clear purpose of keeping people safe in hazardous areas. We’re looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our specialist team, working on equipment used in hazardous areas. You’ll design and deliver electrical solutions across material handling - predominantly fork lift trucks - and power systems, supporting both bespoke customer projects and new product development.
What you’ll do as Electrical Design Engineer:
- Assessment of diesel engine control systems to enable the hazardous area protection systems to be integrated onto the engine for both ATEX and IEC Ex compliance for both on shore and off shore applications.
- Component selection for integration into original machine electrical systems.
- Define protection concepts for gas and dust hazardous areas.
- Apply Pyroban gas detection systems.
- Produce project specs, design documents and AutoCAD Electrical drawings.
- Design components for tight spaces and harsh environments.
- Specify Ex‑certified traction batteries.
- Define enclosure layouts and population.
- Support testing, compliance and certification documentation.
- Work on new product development and customer‑driven projects.
- Provide technical support pre‑ and post‑sale.
What you’ll bring to the Electrical Design Engineer role:
- At least 5 years experience in a similar electrical engineering role.
- Strong understanding of electrical/electronic systems and controls.
- BOM generation and component specification skills.
- Mechanical/electrical integration experience.
- Fault‑finding ability on complex systems.
- HND/Degree in Electrical, Electronics or Automotive Engineering.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical.
- Experience in regulated environments, including CE marking.
- Highly organised, proactive and able to manage multiple projects.
Nice to have as our Electrical Design Engineer:
- Knowledge of PLCs, AC inverters and industrial controllers.
- AC/DC power systems experience.
- CAN protocol knowledge.
- PLC, CPLD or FPGA programming exposure.
- EMC knowledge.
- Understanding of hazardous area regulations and design standards.
