We are looking for an experienced MV/HV Electrical Field Service Engineer for a very successful company who design, manufacture and install electrical equipment for a range of industries, from heavy material handling such as cement works, mining and rail, through to hospitals and the food industry, to carry out repair, maintenance, servicing, commissioning and upgrades of all electrical equipment on client sites across the UK.

Head office is in Sheffield, however, after initial training, you can be based from home, if willing to travel as necessary to client sites. Extensive overtime is available, which can take the annual salary up to c.£75k, on average, Engineers will be on client sites for up to 50% of the week, fully expensed, which can include weekends, but Monday to Friday is possible.

As part of a team of 9, this Electrical Field Service Engineer will also carry out site surveys on MV/HV electrical equipment, investigate customer issues, develop solutions, produce detailed work packages, risk & method statements, and be the point of contact for customers.

Typically a project could be:

  • MV starter maintenance - Insulation & operation testing
  • Transformers - tap changer testing/breather replacement and oil testing
  • General cleaning/inspection
  • Partial discharge/thermography testing
  • LV Switchboard - MCCB testing/protection relay testing

Installation/commissioning includes:

  • General works to install electrical equipment
  • Bolting together / end to end testing
  • Insulation / protection relay testing
  • HV flash testing
  • Commissioning

For those who have suitable knowledge and experience, you will provide technical support for colleagues, potentially training newer Engineers.

Essential qualifications, experience and knowledge:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of high voltage distribution and supply equipment with a good level of fault finding and repair knowledge
  • Understanding and experience with electrical capital equipment and design
  • Qualified to work in an electrical hazardous area and willing to undertake relevant training
  • Ability to work with high level technical data with a high level of attention to detail
  • Able to work under own initiative, and work to defined plans and specifications
  • Ability to prioritize workload and get it right first time
  • Work independently with a good customer focus and commercial acumen
