We have been engaged by a reputable Building contractor who, due to a period of sustained growth, have a requirement for an additional Estimator to join their Glasgow-based team on a permanent basis. The business typically acts as Main Contractor to deliver a wide range of specialist contracting services. Applicants should have experience pricing M&E and/or housing maintenance works.

Your New Role: To provide estimating expertise and leadership to compile a compliant tender bid. Work with operational teams to establish programme and prelim elements as well as agreeing early win strategies to enhance our win rate. Your primary function will include engaging new and existing supply chain members to ensure we establish best market quotations and to cost up our own internal elements through first principal estimating as well as reviewing historical rates and pricing strategies. Daily duties include diligently maintaining good progress to meet tender deadlines by timeous issue of subcontractor and supplier enquiries and responses.

Responsibilities:

  • To carry out a high-level tender review of tender documentation and prepare a summary report on whether this is a viable project to bid for.
  • To review contract tender information and identify incomplete elements and request details from the client.
  • To establish bid deliverables and agree win strategies with Management Team as well as utilising Senior Management experience for the tender.
  • Establish whether the tender requires a bill of quantities or a take-off and organise appointing a PQS to carry this out timeously should we not be able to carry this out in-house.
  • To compile a tender enquiry letter to subcontractors which must include all ITT, preamble, drawings, and specifications as detailed within the tender pack.
  • To ensure tendering contractors are made aware of programme durations.
  • To compile a risk register that reflects our bid strategy and price accordingly.
  • In the instance of main contracting mid tender review meetings will be implemented by the Estimator.
  • Estimator to carry out daily/weekly review on tender submissions to identify status and enter into negotiations to secure the project.
  • Liaise with Estimating Team regarding business improvements/systems, current market rates and implement change as required.
  • Ensure administration of databases are maintained.
  • Attend weekly estimating meetings and update all as required.
  • Liaise with Operations Teams to ensure that all safety and environmental matters have been considered within our bid.

Supply Chain:

  • Ensure supply chain members are financially viable and have the adequate resources and experience to fulfil the work scope obligations.
  • Ensure the appropriate labour only/sub-contractors are selected for the tender process and review and agree with Operations Director.
  • Ensure that subcontractors provide adequate programmes to allow the PM to manage their works.
  • To ensure self-delivery labour, plant and materials are ordered timeously to the purchasing department.

Reporting:

  • Provide weekly general update to Senior Management.
  • Ensure adequate records are kept of relevant matters.
  • Provider analysis reports on subcontractors.
  • Maintain win rate ratios and feedback to Senior Management.
