Trainee Gear Finishing and Workshop Assistant- Gibbs Gears
Pay: £15.50–£18.50 per hour, depending on experience
Working hours: Standard day shift, Monday to Friday
Gibbs Gears is seeking a practical, detail-focused person to train in the finishing of precision gears and the fitting and assembly of transmission components.
This is an opportunity to learn skilled engineering work through hands-on training and support from experienced colleagues. Previous engineering experience is welcome but is not essential.
What you will learn
- Deburring, dressing and finishing gears while protecting tooth profiles and critical surfaces.
- Fitting gears, shafts, bearings and seals, and assembling transmission subassemblies.
- Reading engineering drawings and following work instructions.
- Using measuring equipment to carry out visual and dimensional checks.
- Working safely and maintaining a clean, organised workspace.

- An interest in engineering and practical, hands-on work.
- Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- A patient, methodical approach and pride in doing a job properly.
- Reliable, willing to learn and comfortable working as part of a team.
