The Role

As a CNC Cylindrical and Surface Grinder Operator, you will play a pivotal role in our production process, ensuring high-quality components through precise grinding operations. You will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a range of grinding machines, such as Jones and Shipman and Studer, to work with materials like metal, steel, and alloys. Your technical skills and attention to detail will help maintain our high-quality standards. You will report to the Production Supervisor and work closely with on-site and off-site teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine Setup & Operation: Set up and operate cylindrical and surface grinding machines (JS-Jones and shipman 650 easy and 1000 ultramat-internal, external and universal and Studer S33 universal grinding machine) to perform grinding operations on various materials such as metal, steel, and alloys. Wheel dressing & grinding wheel management.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct in-process inspections and use precision instruments (micrometres, callipers) to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance and resolve machine malfunctions.
  • Documentation: Record production data and report any deviations or improvement suggestions.
  • Flexibility: Take on additional tasks as required by business needs.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience as a CNC Grinder Operator in precision engineering.
  • Strong understanding of grinding principles and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and routine machine maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs or A-Levels (or equivalent) required.
  • Vocational training or apprenticeship in machining preferred.
  • Certifications in precision grinding are a plus.
