The Role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Gear Cutter – Setter/Operator to join our growing team. You will be responsible for setting and operating CNC hobbing and CNC shaping machines to produce precision gears. Experience with Gleason CNC gear machines and manual gear machinery is essential. As part of our commitment to employee development, you will also have the opportunity to learn and develop skills in gear grinding, with comprehensive training provided. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, you will play a key role in helping us meet production targets while maintaining our high-quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Setup & Operation: Set up and operate CNC hobbing and CNC shaping machines to produce precision gears to exact specifications.
- Manual Gear Cutting: Operate manual gear machines as required for specific tasks.
- Tooling & Calibration: Select and set up appropriate cutting tools, perform tool changes, and ensure proper machine calibration.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect components using precision instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers) to verify dimensional accuracy and quality.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve machine issues to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
- Training & Development: Learn and develop skills in gear grinding, with training provided on advanced grinding equipment.
- Process Improvement: Collaborate with the team to implement continuous improvement initiatives for efficiency and quality enhancement.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate production logs and records for quality and compliance.
What You Bring
- Proven experience setting and operating Gleason CNC gear machines and manual gear machinery.
- Strong understanding of CNC hobbing and shaping processes.
- Familiarity with cutting tools, materials, and gear machining techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T specifications.
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools for quality control.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Qualifications
- GCSEs in Mathematics and English (or equivalent).
- Vocational training or certifications in CNC machining or gear cutting are advantageous.
