SUMMARY
Gibbs Consulting is looking to appoint a Data Architect to support a high-profile bespoke software solution entering Phase 2 of its design and delivery. Working within a highly secure environment, this role will play a key part in shaping and extending the data architecture for a complex solution handling significant volumes of data.
JOB OVERVIEW
As the Data Architect, you will be responsible for reviewing and extending the existing data model for a high-profile software solution as it moves into Phase 2. The role requires strong hands-on expertise in Elasticsearch data modelling, including the design of indices, documents and fields, alongside experience working with large-scale datasets in the terabyte range.
You will work closely with business and technical stakeholders to analyse source data, define mapping and transformation requirements, and design the target-state logical data model. This role will also act as the go-to point of contact for data-related queries across the programme, supporting the wider development team with implementation guidance and best practice aligned to enterprise data standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and analyse source data, including digital media and communications data, to define mapping and transformation requirements
- Produce data mapping documents and data dictionaries for the software development team
- Assess the current document data model against new application features to identify gaps and required enhancements
- Design the target-state logical data model for Phase 2
- Define new Elasticsearch indexes and document data models to support both existing and future requirements
- Provide implementation guidance on how Elasticsearch indexes should support query joins and application features
- Draft and size the activities required to deliver the target-state Elasticsearch data model
- Define and agree the delivery approach for Elasticsearch index development within an Agile software development environment
- Support the wider team with best practice guidance on data architecture, standards and modelling approaches
- Ensure data design aligns with enterprise data principles, policies and wider organisational data strategy
- Act as the lead contact for data-related queries across the project team
REQUIREMENTS
- Strong experience designing document data models in Elasticsearch, including indices, documents and fields
- Proven experience working with very large datasets in the terabyte range
- Hands-on experience with extracting, ingesting, mapping and transforming data
- Strong background in data architecture and logical data modelling
- Experience producing data mapping documents and data dictionaries
- Ability to review existing data models and extend them to support new software features
- Experience working closely with software engineering and technical delivery teams in Agile environments
- Comfortable acting as the data SME within a complex delivery programme
- Must hold active SC clearance
- Must hold active NPPV3 clearance
- STRAP clearance required
NICE TO HAVE
- Policing domain knowledge, particularly around the POLE data model
- Experience working with the UKIC Information Exchange Standard (IES)
