Gibberd Architects is seeking an experienced Associate Architect to join our established practice in Shoreditch, London. This is an opportunity for a talented and commercially aware architect to take a leadership role within a collaborative and respected practice with a diverse portfolio spanning Residential, Education, Healthcare, Commercial, Conservation and Building Safety projects.

As an Associate, you will be responsible for leading project teams, managing client relationships and ensuring the successful delivery of projects. You will work closely with the Directors to programme resources, oversee project delivery and support the ongoing development of the practice. We are looking for an individual who combines strong technical expertise with excellent organisational and communication skills, and who enjoys mentoring others and contributing positively to team culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of multiple projects across a range of sectors and RIBA work stages.
  • Manage project programmes, resources and team workloads to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for clients and maintain strong working relationships throughout project delivery.
  • Coordinate and manage consultant, contractor and design team inputs.
  • Support Directors in project planning, resource management and strategic delivery.
  • Mentor and manage architects, technologists and architectural assistants within project teams.
  • Oversee project quality, technical compliance and design coordination.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with Building Regulations and Building Safety legislation.
  • Monitor project performance against programme and fee budgets, identifying risks and opportunities at an early stage.
  • Contribute to the commercial success of projects through effective resource planning, scope management and project delivery.
  • Support the continued growth, reputation and performance of the practice.
Essential Requirements
  • UK Registered Architect.
  • Proven experience leading project teams and managing complex projects through multiple RIBA stages.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Demonstrable experience managing client, consultant and contractor relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of UK Building Regulations.
  • Experience working on Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs).
  • Experience preparing and coordinating Building Safety Act Gateway 2 submissions.
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of project fees, resource allocation and programme management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience in façade remediation and building safety projects.
  • Experience of complex refurbishment, occupied buildings or regulatory-led projects.
  • Experience undertaking the Principal Designer role under the CDM Regulations.
  • Knowledge of current building safety and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience across multiple sectors.
