A leading engineering and product testing organisation is seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to oversee HSE strategy, compliance and culture across its Product Services division. The role is responsible for developing, implementing and promoting Health, Safety and Environmental policies across two key UK sites, ensuring safe working practices and environmental responsibility throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain a safe, healthy working environment across all operational areas
- Drive environmental responsibility and awareness throughout the organisation
- Provide impartial HSE advice to management, employees and stakeholders
- Develop, review and update company HSE procedures; ensure accessibility and understanding across teams
- Audit compliance with HSE policies and procedures
- Review risk assessments and conduct investigations, recommending appropriate control measures
- Maintain essential HSE records and documentation
- Deliver core Health & Safety training and support environmental awareness initiatives
- Monitor and report on HSE performance, incidents, achievements and improvements
- Chair local Health & Safety Committee meetings
- Support fee proposals, invoicing and credit control related to HSE responsibilities
- Assist with PQQs, tender documentation and compliance submissions
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety professional within an engineering environment
- Strong working knowledge of HSE legislation, including practical experience with: high voltage, chemicals, gases, solvents, radiation, manual handling, working at height and environmental controls
- Minimum Level 3 Health & Safety qualification (NEBOSH GC, NCRQ or equivalent)
- Membership of a recognised professional body (IOSH, IIRSM, ISEP)
- Understanding of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
- Pragmatic, solutions-focused approach to risk management
- Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
- Good IT proficiency and report-writing ability
Desirable Criteria
- Level 5/6 qualification in Health, Safety or Environmental discipline (NEBOSH, NCRQ, ISEP)
- Level 3+ qualification in engineering or scientific subject (ONC/OND, HNC/HND or equivalent)
- ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 Internal Auditor qualification
- Understanding of commercial or government security controls
- Experience implementing or managing environmental policies
