Overview
We are recruiting for an Estimator to join a well-established precision engineering and manufacturing business based in Nottinghamshire. This role would suit an individual with a strong CNC machining background who is either already working in estimating or is looking to transition from the shop floor into an office-based technical role. You will be responsible for producing accurate, competitive quotations across machining and fabrication projects while working closely with engineering, production and commercial teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models and technical specifications
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and detailed quotations
- Calculate machining times, material costs, tooling, fabrication time and subcontract processes
- Liaise with CNC, fabrication, quality and planning teams to validate production times
- Source material and subcontract pricing from suppliers
- Maintain and update pricing models for repeat and new work
- Identify cost-saving and value-engineering opportunities
- Support tender submissions and respond to customer enquiries
- Maintain accurate quote, margin and conversion records
- Provide technical input during customer meetings, audits and project reviews
- Ensure all quotations meet business standards for accuracy, profitability and lead time
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- Background in precision engineering or CNC machining
- Proven experience as a CNC Miller
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances and machining principles
- Confident using manual inspection equipment
- High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage workload independently
Desirable:
- CNC program editing or writing experience
- 3-axis or 4-axis machining experience
- NVQ Level 3 or completed apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering / Machining
