Join Gi Group to support the waste and refuse collection operation of a local authority. We are currently recruiting for Class 2 drivers who may also be required to operate occasionally as a loader but always paid at the driver rate.
Location: Huntingdonshire
Service: Environmental and Community Services
Pay Rate: £17.45 per hour (PAYE)* standard hours
Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday-Tuesday 06:00-15:00, Wednesday-Friday 06:00-14:00
Overtime: after 37 hours overtime is paid x1.5 at £26.17 per hour.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive Class 2 refuse vehicle in designated area.
- Lead a refuse/recycling round, managing crew performance, conduct and safety.
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, DVSA rules, PPE use and council policies.
- Carry out daily vehicle checks, defect reporting and ensure vehicles are not overloaded.
- Maintain accurate, real-time records via the in‑cab system (collections, missed bins, issues).
- Collect domestic/commercial waste and recycling, including litter bins, bulky items and special collections.
- Deliver/collect wheeled bins and sacks and support other crews when required.
- Act as an ambassador for the Council, responding to public queries and providing clear information.
- When loading, safely operate bin lifts and equipment, keep the area tidy and follow instructions from the Driver/Loader.
Requirements:
- Category C (Class 2) licence and valid Driver CPC.
- Physically fit - able to move bins/bags and walk several miles per day.
- Strong awareness of Health & Safety and working near highways.
- Good written and verbal communication skills; literate and numerate.
- Experience supervising a small team and making sound decisions under pressure.
- Able to build positive relationships with customers and colleagues and handle complaints professionally.
