GI Group are now seeking a Senior Finance Accountant for our Public Sector client for a temporary contract until 30th June 2026. The Senior Finance Accountant will oversee the college's budgeting and financial reporting, maintain and monitor budgets, manage cashflow forecasting, supervise the Assistant Management Accountant, drive improvements to financial systems for greater efficiency, and ensure compliance with financial regulations and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce monthly management accounts, budget reports and cashflow forecasts; investigate variances and advise budget holders.
- Maintain and improve financial systems and reporting (Q&A/Sun or similar) to drive efficiency and control.
- Prepare budgets, journals and lead year‑end audit pack preparation.
- Manage short‑term cashflow, oversee investments/loan drawdowns and monitor capital spend.
- Supervise the Assistant Management Accountant and provide cover for the Finance Officer.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, statutory returns and internal controls.
Person Specification
- Qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) or equivalent experience.
- Strong management accounting, budgeting, cashflow and audit experience.
- Skilled with financial systems and Excel; effective communicator and manager.
