Who are we?

Ghyston is a 50-person, Bristol-based bespoke software house delivering high-quality, transformational solutions across a range of industries. We’re ambitious, collaborative, and here to make a positive difference—for our clients, our community, and each other. We blend technical excellence with a culture that genuinely supports learning, inclusion, and fun. We are proud to have achieved recognition in the national ‘Best Companies’ awards for our sector, size and industry and we recently won TechSPARK’s ‘Best Place to Work’ award 2025.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for a talented developer who’s ready to make a significant impact—whether you’re a seasoned mid-level looking to push for senior, or you’ve already got broad expertise and want to play a key part in team technical direction.

This is an opportunity to own meaningful parts of real projects, work on end-to-end systems, be embedded within client dev teams and shape both technical and business outcomes. You’ll apply your craft across back-end, front-end, cloud, and possibly mobile; you’ll have the autonomy to design and implement solutions, even when no clear pattern exists. You think commercially, always considering cost, value, client satisfaction and user impact.

We’re especially interested if you bring experience or enthusiasm for mobile app development (React Native or native mobile, for example), are already security cleared for work in the defence sector (or willing to be), and/or have been experimenting with or integrating AI tools and solutions into your work.

What will you be doing?

  • Designing and building end-to-end features (and sometimes whole epics!), often in scenarios where you must chart the path or solve complex challenges with minimal hand-holding
  • Owning your technical decisions and delivering code that’s clean, well-architected, resilient, and testable—across the stack (C#, Java, TypeScript, React, SQL, etc.)
  • Getting deeply involved in code and system reviews—guiding and mentoring others (if senior), and constructively contributing as a peer (if mid-level)
  • Making full use of modern tools and AI to boost your productivity and deliver better value for clients
  • Participating in technical discussions with customers; communicating complex concepts simply and acting as a trusted, professional technical voice
  • Debugging, profiling, and optimising solutions—spotting performance and security risks before they become issues
  • If you have mobile and/or AI skills, using them to help us push into new solution spaces
  • Working in a way that balances technical quality with commercial sense—the decisions you make recognise cost, timelines, and business impact

About you

  • A background in full-stack software development (several years’ experience or demonstrable equivalent)
  • A strong sense of ownership—treating decisions and systems as though they were your own business
  • Comfort working independently on complex tasks, but also a collaborative approach—valuing teamwork, knowledge-sharing, and (where senior) supporting less experienced devs
  • Experience with at least some of: enterprise back-end (C#/Java), front-end frameworks (React/TypeScript), SQL/databases, cloud platforms, and modern delivery practices (CI/CD, automated testing)
  • Extra points for: mobile app delivery (native or React Native), and enthusiasm for or hands‑on experience experimenting with AI/ML in your own workflow or solutions
  • Professional, constructive communicator—confident with both clients and colleagues
  • Eager to learn, develop, master new technologies, and influence your team’s technical direction
  • Always alert to commercial outcomes—balancing code quality, maintainability, and business value
  • Carefully monitor and prioritise your own time to ensure that you are always delivering valuable outcomes

What do we offer?

  • £45,000–£55,000 salary (depending on your skills and experience)
  • 9% non-contributory pension
  • Flexible hybrid work (central Bristol hub, plus 1-2 days per week remote after probation)
  • A high-performing, supportive team where you can stretch and grow
  • Real ownership and varied project work, from existing client systems to greenfield architecture
  • Wellbeing perks: regular socials, company holiday, chillout spaces, fully-stocked kitchen, and more
  • Buy/sell holiday scheme, plus annual leave
  • Commitment to learning—mentoring, opportunities to lead, and technical communities

At Ghyston we value all kinds of diversity—background, experience, and thinking. If you’re passionate about writing great code, shaping solutions, and acting as a genuine owner in a progressive tech business, let’s talk—even if you don’t tick every box.
