Rutherford Cross is delighted to be retained by GHS Group to appoint a Financial Controller. GHS Group comprises two main trading businesses, Green Home Systems Ltd (‘GHS’) and Andrew Wright Windows Ltd (‘AWW’) - AWW being a recent acquisition. The company's aim is to deliver a full suite of energy efficiency measures, from windows and doors through to Solar PV and Heat Pumps, to both the domestic and commercial markets. GHS Group is seeking to appoint a Financial Controller at a pivotal stage in its growth journey. This role will play a critical part in supporting the delivery of the company's five-year strategic plan and ambitious growth objectives.
Offering a unique opportunity to become an integral member of the leadership team, the successful candidate will help drive business performance and contribute to key strategic decisions. The position is expected to evolve over time, with increasing involvement in commercial activities and responsibility for leading business improvement initiatives across the organisation.
Key responsibilities:
- Responsible for accuracy of group results and stewardship of group assets
- Ensure robust system controls and provision of comprehensive reporting structure within which the group can successfully operate
- Assist in the combination of GHS / AWW businesses and the harmonisation of accounting procedures/reporting/controls
- Work closely with the MD and FD to influence business behaviour and strategy based on accurate information
- Management of the finance department and recruitment as the department grows
- Becoming involved in other areas of the business, such as compliance - as required
Due to the requirement for close senior management collaboration and our demanding growth plan, the role is fully site-based. Beyond strong technical expertise, GHS Group is seeking a naturally inquisitive and ambitious individual who can operate autonomously and possesses the personal credibility and gravitas to lead the finance function while influencing the wider business. This influence is expected to grow as the role develops over time.
The successful candidate will be equally comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders and adopting a hands-on approach when required, driving the implementation of robust financial systems, controls, processes, and management information. For the right individual, this position could offer a clear and accelerated pathway to a Finance Director role.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High-level understanding of the technical side of accounting/system workings as opposed to accounting standards
- Qualified CA with appropriate post-qualification experience
- Ability to take responsibility and ownership and use initiative is essential
- Strong leadership capabilities with a natural ability to build relationships across a business
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and influencing skills
- Highly commercially astute with significant experience in influencing commercial decision-making
- Excellent attention to detail
- Process and systems orientated, experienced in driving changes in this area
- Ability to be assertive at all levels of the business when required
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Have the drive required to be part of a private equity-backed business, and the motivation to be an integral part of the group’s growth
- A desire to move to a Finance Director’s role in the future - there will be significant initial support from the MD for the more commercial aspects of the role, but there should be a willingness to learn this side of the role as quickly as possible
