Role Overview: We are looking to appoint a CDM Principal Designer to join our team to provide high-quality CDM and PD services to developers and clients across the UK. Representing the company as a key client contact, you will be responsible for managing your own CDM projects, being the key interface between the client, design and construction teams to provide CDM and H&S advice, and taking on the role of CDM PD to plan, manage, monitor and coâordinate Health & Safety in preâconstruction phases of projects, including identifying, eliminating or controlling foreseeable risks. All of this will assist the clients to deliver projects in line with their remit, programme and budget.
Responsibilities:
- Produce highâquality information and advice as required (including PreâConstruction Information, CEMPs, Construction Phase Plans and Risk Appraisals).
- Liaise with project contacts, manage information flow, project admin (including budget management, organising purchase orders and submitting invoicing).
- Provide support to the wider CDM Team.
- Review Construction Phase Plans, Method Statements, Risk Assessments and oversee the preparation of Health & Safety Files as projects progress.
- Participate in weekly team meetings, regular client project meetings, coordinate Design Review Workshops, conduct site visits for initial risk appraisals and Client Monitoring Inspections.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience acting as a CDM Principal Designer.
- Current membership of the Association for Project Safety (minimum IMaPS but CMaPS preferred).
- Excellent IT skills.
- Thorough understanding of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015, Building Safety Act, Health & Safety at Work Act and Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations.
- Demonstrable understanding of design and construction drawings with extensive experience of undertaking Design Risk Reviews.
- Excellent knowledge of the built environment and construction processes; significant experience working in the construction industry and a strong grasp of health & safety good practice.
- Existing Health & Safety qualification â preferably NEBOSH Diploma and/or NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
Desirable:
- A degree or equivalent in a Built Environment subject and/or membership of other relevant professional bodies (MCABE, MCIOB, RIBA, MRICS, MAPM, MIStructE, MICE, CEng, etc).
- NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent.
- CMIOSH Acc.

- Selfâsufficient, able to work independently and unsupervised, yet enjoys team collaboration.
- Builds strong relationships, establishes good rapport, communicates effectively with clients and site staff at all levels, handles difficult situations diplomatically.
- Extremely IT literate and competent â highly experienced with general Microsoft Office, mobile phone software and operating systems.
- Excellent English language, reportâwriting and communication skills; high level of attention to detail and audit trail maintenance.
- Smart, businessâappropriate appearance, discreet nature and common sense approach to business and client requirements.
- Fullâclean driving licence and roadworthy vehicle for business use.
Physical Requirements: Being out on site regularly will require the ability to move around a construction site safely, climb ladders, access scaffolding and potentially work at height. GHPC will supply all necessary PPE.
