Our Ontario transportation team is looking for a Project Director ready to join our growing Canadian Operations in our Markham office. This position can be flexible to be located out of any of our GTA offices, including Mississauga, Toronto, Waterloo and Whitby.
The transportation team within GHD works with Provincial, Regional, and local municipal transportation agencies, as well as select contracting partners, on projects including highways, roads and bridges, transit and multi-modal infrastructure, and transportation planning. Our team provides integrated transportation services throughout the project lifecycle from initial policy, transportation economics, and business case advice, through planning, concept, environmental assessment, detailed design, construction administration, and asset management support.
This role is intended for a Project Manager and Project Director interested in the advancement of their career leading highway planning and design projects. The role will provide exposure to and opportunities for growth in business development, staff management, and operations management. Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Successful delivery of highway planning and design projects.
- Leading multi-disciplinary teams for preliminary and detail design road and bridge projects for municipal clients as a Project Manager.
- Taking ownership for all aspects of the management of projects from proposal to close-out, including managing teams, sub-consultants, budgets, schedule, quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
- Providing technical leadership and mentorship to intermediate and junior staff.
- Teamwork in small and large teams.
- Owning the integration with other engineering disciplines, engineers, and design staff in the production of high-quality project deliverables.
- Managing staff including performance, workload, and supporting their technical and professional development.
- Promoting best practices and leadership in transportation projects.
- Supporting Business Development including capture planning and leading proposals.
- Contributing to the development and execution of the business development strategy for MTO and related clients, including creating capture plans and enhancing client relationships.
- Applying your expertise using a variety of transportation solutions to help our clients, including corridor planning, highway and freeway planning and design, green infrastructure strategies, intersection and interchange design, digital delivery, integrated transportation technology/ITS solutions, managing highway and bridge rehabilitation and expansion design projects, and roundabout design.
What you will bring to the team:
- Post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering.
- Ontario P.Eng. designation required (or eligible).
- 15+ years' experience in planning and design of transportation infrastructure projects, including project management experience.
- Experience working with Ministry of Transportation of Ontario.
- Experience working with other highway agencies and municipal transportation clients would be an asset.
- Experience managing design projects in collaborative models (e.g. Progressive Design-Build, Alliance, CMGC) would be an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proven track record to develop, mentor, and lead professional technical staff.
