Overview
In this role you will deliver project controls across a Central Canada region, supporting project managers in planning, scheduling, cost control and risk management for large engineering projects. You’ll work with cross-functional teams in a hybrid environment, applying earned value and KPI-driven insights to keep scope, cost and schedule on track. You’ll mentor teammates, collaborate with Finance and Design leads, and drive practical solutions for project performance. This is a hands-on, impact-focused position with exposure to multi-disciplinary design delivery.
Responsibilities
- Implement project controls for a project or portfolio, covering scheduling, cost control, change management and risk management in line with policy and best practices
- Deliver hands-on project controls activities as needed based on project complexity
- Collaborate with Project Managers to oversee core controls activities and provide financial and schedule guidance
- Provide recommendations to meet or exceed KPIs related to budgets and schedules
- Review budgets and schedules with Project Manager, Design Manager and Discipline Leads to address gaps
- Assess change notices aligned with change management processes
- Coordinate with Finance and Project Administrators to ensure accurate budgets and timely invoicing
- Provide coaching on project controls best practices to team members and staff
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent diploma from a recognized college or university with at least 10 years of relevant project controls experience in design or engineering
- Experience delivering project controls for large, multi-disciplinary engineering projects from design through construction
- Strong scheduling, cost control and risk management knowledge
- Experience with earned value, CPI and SPI metrics
- Familiarity with delivery models such as DB, DBB, PDB and IPD
- Experience implementing and coordinating project controls systems (e.g., Primavera P6, Acumen Fuse)
- Proficiency with cost analysis and planning/scheduling tools (Excel, MS Project, Primavera P6) and data exchange with ERP or cost accounting systems
- Experience with Power BI for dashboards and reporting
- Ability to manage ambiguity and competing priorities
- Strong team building, mentoring skills; forensic scheduling and PMP/PMI-SP qualifications are assets
