As our UK Place & Movement team continues to grow, we're looking for a Senior Highways Engineer (Urban Realm) to help deliver innovative, people-focused transport and public realm projects across the UK.This is an opportunity to join a collaborative multidisciplinary team working on a diverse range of urban realm, active travel, highway improvement and sustainable transport schemes for public and private sector clients. You'll lead project delivery, mentor developing engineers and play an important role in growing our Urban Realm capability.The RoleYou'll lead the design and delivery of urban realm and highway projects from concept through to construction, working closely with clients, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to create high-quality, sustainable and accessible places.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design and delivery of urban realm, highways and traffic engineering projects.Develop designs from feasibility and concept stage through to detailed design and construction support.Act as a technical lead and design checker.Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including structures, drainage, lighting and landscape specialists.Manage project budgets, programmes and resources.Build and maintain strong client relationships.Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians.Contribute to proposals, bids and business development activities.Undertake site visits, surveys and construction support where required.Ensure compliance with relevant standards, specifications and quality procedures.What You'll BringWe're seeking an experienced highways professional with a passion for creating high-quality urban environments and transport infrastructure.Essential Skills & ExperienceDegree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.Typically 5+ years' experience in highways, urban realm or traffic engineering design.Experience delivering projects in one or more of the following areas:Public realm schemesActive travel infrastructureBus priority and public transport improvementsJunction designSection 278 worksRoad safety schemes20mph zones and traffic calming measuresParking and streetscape projectsUtility coordination and diversionsHighway drainage designStrong knowledge of UK highway design standards and guidance.Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams.Ability to review and check technical designs and drawings.Understanding of highway construction methods, materials and specifications.Proficiency in AutoCAD and associated design software.Strong communication, stakeholder management and report-writing skills.DesirableIncorporated or Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards professional registration.Experience delivering projects for Local Authorities, Transport for London or National Highways.Experience using Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads.Experience supporting tenders, bids and work-winning activities.Why Join GHD?At GHD, you'll be part of a global organisation that values innovation, collaboration and professional growth.
