Social media is a core strategic driver of ghd’s brand building, cultural relevance and long‑term commercial growth. The Global Head of Social Media defines and leads the global social strategy across owned and paid channels, using deep technical platform knowledge and algorithmic understanding to drive performance at scale. This role is accountable for translating platform mechanics, data and insight into a social‑first strategy that delivers against global KPIs, supports brand equity and accelerates digital and commercial outcomes.
Working closely with Digital Marketing, PR, Influencer Marketing, Innovation, Education and Product Marketing, the role ensures social is both creatively excellent and performance‑led. As the senior authority on social, this position partners closely with international markets to ensure best‑in‑class local execution, while maintaining global consistency, governance and growth momentum. This position is a 12-month fixed term contract.
LOCATION
This role will be based in our London (Soho) office, and we offer a hybrid working pattern of 3 days in the office and 2 days WFH.
JOB ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Bring expert knowledge of social platforms, including a strong technical understanding of how algorithms, formats and features drive performance.
- Define and lead ghd’s global social media strategy, driving a social‑first approach aligned to brand, digital and commercial objectives.
- Hold end‑to‑end accountability for global social performance across all markets, with clear ownership of achieving and exceeding agreed KPIs.
- Act as the senior internal authority on social, setting direction, standards and priorities globally.
- Use deep understanding of platform algorithms, formats and performance levers to shape strategy, growth plans and investment decisions.
- Proactively evolve strategy in response to platform innovation, behavioural shifts and new channels, translating change into measurable performance impact.
- Set the strategic direction for social‑first campaign and launch planning, ensuring global consistency and local effectiveness.
- Own the global always‑on social approach, balancing brand storytelling, cultural relevance and performance objectives.
- Develop & sign off global social toolkits, creative frameworks and asset strategies, with execution led by direct reports.
- Own the global content strategy across written, visual and video formats, ensuring all output reflects ghd’s premium positioning and tone of voice.
- Drive creative excellence and cultural relevance, remaining reactive to platform trends and global moments.
- Embed SEO, ecommerce and conversion thinking into content strategy to support measurable business outcomes.
Paid Social & Amplification:
- Partner closely with the Paid Social team to identify strategic opportunities for amplification and growth.
- Oversee the briefing, development and performance of paid social assets across awareness, consideration and conversion objectives.
- Use paid performance insight to inform creative optimisation and future investment strategy.
- Own global measurement, reporting and insight frameworks for social performance.
- Present clear, actionable performance updates, trends and competitive insight to senior stakeholders and markets.
- Use data and insight to continuously optimise strategy, creative output and market execution.
People & Market Leadership:
- Line manage two Global Social Media Managers and an Assistant Social Media Content Manager.
- Build a high‑performance, collaborative and creatively ambitious team culture.
- Lead global markets to ensure consistent execution, capability building and performance excellence.
REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive experience leading global social media strategy within a premium or beauty brand environment.
- Proven ability to use deep platform and algorithmic knowledge to drive sustained growth and performance.
- Strong strategic thinker with the ability to translate data, insight and cultural understanding into clear direction.
- Expert understanding of social platforms, content formats and performance drivers.
- Strong knowledge of ecommerce and conversion‑led content strategy.
- Experience managing global markets and senior stakeholders.
- Highly organised, agile and confident operating in a fast‑paced, reactive environment.
- A credible, confident leader who challenges convention and drives creative and commercial excellence.
- Minimum 7+ years’ experience in social media roles, either in‑house or agency.
- Good understanding of social trends and digital culture.
