This role will be based in our Cambridge office.

ABOUT THIS ROLE
As a CFD Engineer, you will be a key member of the Systems Engineering Team at ghd, playing a critical role in the design, development, and optimisation of complex products within a dynamic and collaborative environment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the creation of early‑stage prototypes and to work alongside an industry‑leading team of engineers and scientists.

JOB ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hands-On Skills: Utilise hands‑on skills to build, test, and troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Inquisitive and Questioning: Demonstrate curiosity and the ability to ask critical questions to ensure a deep understanding of project requirements.
  • Separation of Concerns and System Decomposition: Break down complex systems into manageable components, ensuring clear separation of concerns and facilitating efficient system design.
  • Engineering and prototyping: Design and build functional prototypes to validate concepts and technologies. Conduct feasibility studies and proof‑of‑concept experiments for new technologies (e.g., heating elements, sensors, power systems). Utilize CAD software to model components and assemblies.
  • Understanding Data: Analyse and interpret data to make informed decisions and recommendations for system improvements.
  • CAD & Modelling: Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and modelling tools to create detailed system designs and prototypes.
  • Simulation: Using a first principal understanding of thermal or fluid systems and tools like spreadsheets, FEA or CDF build digital models of subsystems to reduce the time from theory to a quality outcome.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 2 years’ experience or more in a similar role, preferably in consumer electronics or handheld devices.
  • Ability to integrate heating, sensing & control methods as part of a mechanical and/or electronic system to create novel early‑stage technologies and concepts.
  • Experience designing, building, and testing electromechanical prototypes.
  • Experience working in lab environment.
  • CAD skills (ideally Solidworks and/or Creo).
  • At least 2 years of experience with at least one FEA software package: ANSYS, ANSA, Abaqus and or related software (Ideally ANSYS).
  • Fluency in Python.
  • Statistical data analysis.
