Salary: £30,712.24 - £33,030.24 per annum (inclusive of two sleep-ins a week)

Hours: 39 hpw

Location: Derbyshire area

Purpose of Job: The post holder will actively promote the rights of young people as individuals and provide them with quality care in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation. To assist in the management of provision of a safe and homely environment to help young people achieve their potential by strengthening areas of weakness and developing areas of strength. The Senior Support Worker will be expected to achieve positive outcomes for all young people by leading by example, always providing professionalism, and ensuring high levels of commitment, good childcare practice and safeguarding to young people. The company is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff, volunteers, and contractors to share this commitment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of new techniques and approaches to the childcare provision
  • Encourage development of individual interests and attitudes
  • Promote, safeguard and protect the welfare of each young person
  • Establish and maintain positive and trusting relationships with the young people that will promote their sense of security
  • Provide firm, consistent, and fair boundaries in respect of their behaviour and employ appropriate and agreed sanctions
  • Promote the development of a healthy lifestyle for Young People
  • Assist Young People in the development and sustaining of positive social networks with adults and other peer groups
  • Organise and shift lead in group activities and group holidays
  • Lead in the provision/preparation of meals in the home
  • Assist and support Young People through the process of leaving care
  • Encourage Young People to develop their full educational and vocational attainment
  • Observe and assess the behaviour of Young People
  • Engage in and supervise day to day care practices, creating an accepting environment conducive to the positive personal development of each Young Person
  • Undertake in planning for and preparation of Young People for admission or discharge, to and from residential care
  • Always work within the principles of the therapeutic parenting model

Team Expectations:

  • Assist client need and ensure that all Young People have care plans and to develop, implement and review packages of care
  • Work as a member of the senior team, ensuring that the reception, ongoing care and discharge of Young People is undertaken in accordance with the statutory framework and policies & procedures of the organisation
  • Attend and assist in chairing staff meetings and ensure/evidence that actions from meetings are being implemented and followed through consistently
  • Work closely and in co-operation with carers, social work staff, specialists and other professional agencies in accordance with the role and function of the home
  • Develop and maintain appropriate professional relationships with families and other agencies
  • Attend childcare reviews and other forums where Young People’s needs are being considered
  • Support and supervise care workers and TAs where instructed as part of their induction process to the home in conjunction with the organisation’s policies and procedures
  • Make positive use of supervision by more senior staff
  • Participate in the staff appraisal scheme
  • Show a willingness to undertake appropriate training as part of overall professional development

Administrative:

  • Undertake and lead in the routine administrative tasks and provide written reports and maintain the Young Person’s file as required by the organisation’s policies and procedures
  • Compile reports, including Review, Progress, and Incident reports
  • Adhere to appropriate guidelines and procedures
  • Receive and deal with complaints in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation
  • Take the lead in the financial management and recording of day-to-day petty cash maintenance in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures
  • Carry out duties in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, adopting safe working practices, in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures
  • Carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation
  • Shift lead in alternating shift pattern, and support care workers accordingly
  • Assist senior management in all aspects of running the home
  • Deputise in the absence of the manager or deputy manager
