Salary: Up to £100,000 per annum + Bonus (Up to 10%)

The Role

We are seeking a high performing individual with a specific specialism in substation design for electricity networks. Our projects include onshore and offshore generation (particularly solar PV, wind and BESS) connection projects. We also work with onshore Transmission Owners and Distribution Network Operators to deliver a variety of projects. Our work often involves the development of potential connection solutions for our clients, followed by preparation of single line diagrams, substation layouts and elevations, key line diagrams etc. Projects range from distribution to transmission level and include Solar PV, BESS and wind farm connections. This position is for a Lead Substation Design Engineer with significant experience in carrying out substation design, ideally at Transmission and Distribution voltages. The ideal applicant will also have some experience in Power Systems Studies as well as an interest in carrying out or leading some of these studies. You will also be interested in training and developing our staff internally, fostering a collaborative approach. You will also be well versed in communicating with clients and other stakeholders.

Key requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience within the electricity networks industry.
  • Master’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering subject.
  • Strong Substation Design experience, using tools such as AutoCAD (Primary Plant experience is essential).
  • Specification of primary plant equipment.
  • Understanding of protection schemes and control & interlocking philosophies.
  • Strong understanding of UK codes and standards at transmission and distribution.
  • Understanding and compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) regulations.
  • Ability to carry out independent engineering design reviews, including review of the equipment specified, optimal plant configurations, checking design versus relevant specifications etc.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Client focussed with the ability to manage and grow positive relationships with demanding clients.
  • Must be based in the UK.
