Team purpose
The Power Systems Support Team within the Operations Tower comprises five experienced members providing third-level operational and project support, specialising in IBM AIX and IBMi systems for medium-sized customers with complex environments.
What to expect
The role primarily provides IBM AIX and IBMi operational and project support within a managed service for key customers across the UK. Responsibilities include design and delivery assistance, systems administration, operational tasks, project participation, documentation, collaboration, and adherence to industry best practices. The role may require on-call work on a rotational basis to address high-priority incidents and planned activities.
- L3 support for BAU tasks (incidents, service requests, changes) with SLA adherence
- Assist in resolving high-priority or major/escalated incidents to minimise outage time
- Deployment, configuration, and maintenance of IBM AIX & IBMi power systems per best practices
- Follow ITIL/Agile processes (Incident Management, Change Management)
- Collaborate to improve automation strategies and deployment processes
- Knowledge sharing and documentation
- Support internal and external projects
- Handle multiple customer environments with different implementations
- Participate in Service Acceptance to ensure solutions are supportable
- Occasional on-site visits to customer sites or data centres for project/maintenance work
- Out-of-hours on-call support and overtime when required
- Accurate timekeeping for chargeback purposes
What we expect from you
Candidates should have expert working knowledge of IBMi. Key skills and experience include:
- BRMS Backup and Restore
- 3rd party system management and job scheduler experience (Robot, Revsoft, Halcyon)
- LPAR configuration
- Exposure to high availability software (Mimix/ICluster)
- Administration and implementation experience from 7.3 to 7.5
- CL coding capability
- VIOS server skills, SEA and NPIV understanding
- System firmware upgrades
- HMC management and upgrades
- Tape library management
- Experience supporting global IT infrastructures in a technical role
- Ability to discuss technical solutions with customers/suppliers
- Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and ownership mindset
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Understanding of ITIL/Agile service management fundamentals, including change control and production impact
- Knowledge of Service-Now or similar IT process tools is beneficial
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, with escalation when needed
- Organised, self-motivated, and a collaborative team player
Additional requirements
Flexibility with working hours and availability for on-call rota.
