We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead to provide engineering expertise and strategic asset management support across our track infrastructure assets.

As the technical authority within the department, you will lead engineering analysis, interpret asset performance data, and support key decisions relating to maintenance, renewal programmes, and future investment planning.

Working closely with Engineering teams, Project Managers, and System Specialists, you will provide technical leadership that supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical infrastructure assets across our UK and France operations.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to influence long-term asset strategies, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to a strong learning and development culture through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

  • Lead asset management activities, analysing engineering and condition-monitoring data to support maintenance, renewal, and investment decisions.
  • Provide technical guidance and engineering expertise to support departmental objectives and long-term asset strategies.
  • Maintain oversight of asset performance, reliability, safety, and lifecycle management.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for Project Managers, coordinating responses to engineering queries and ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and asset condition assessments to support business planning and investment decisions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of maintenance practices through data-led analysis and collaboration with technical specialists.
  • Support contract specification, contractor selection, and technical assurance of externally delivered services.
  • Promote technical excellence by mentoring colleagues, sharing knowledge, and supporting competency development across the team.
  • Provide technical support during major incidents, investigations, operational challenges, and infrastructure projects.
  • Participate in the management on-call rota and deputise for the Track Manager when required.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Degree-level qualification in Engineering, ideally within a railway discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience within a railway engineering environment.
  • Strong asset management and engineering analysis capability, including interpretation of technical and performance data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience producing reports and presenting technical information to a range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of safety, quality, and environmental standards and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Desirable

  • Railway infrastructure or track engineering experience.
  • IOSH qualification.
  • Assessor and/or training qualifications.
  • Leadership or technical authority experience.
  • Change management experience, including CSM-RA.
  • Experience in accident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • French language skills.
