We’re looking for a Safety Standards Advisor who will play a key role in keeping people safe and ensuring that safety related changes across Eurotunnel are well managed and carefully considered. You’ll help ensure our safety systems continue to meet high standards, including ISO 45001, while supporting teams across the business to put safety into practice every day. You’ll work closely with a wide range of departments to coordinate the safety evidence required for our cross‑Channel operations, making sure we meet European railway safety obligations. You’ll also help colleagues understand the European, national, and binational safety rules and regulations that apply to Eurotunnel, and ensure these are reflected in our internal policies and day‑to‑day ways of working.

Safety Authorisation & Safety Management System (SMS)

  • Support the ongoing development and maintenance of Eurotunnel’s Safety Management System, ensuring it reflects changes in technology and organisational structure.
  • Coordinate the creation and delivery of safety dashboards (“Tableaux de Bord”) across operational teams, helping define what’s needed, offering guidance on how to build them, and tracking progress.
  • Ensure that safety-critical systems are backed by clear, reliable evidence through the dashboards provided by relevant teams.

Safety Standards Website & Documentation

  • Manage and update the Safety Standards Website, an internal digital library that gives staff and regulators easy access to Eurotunnel’s safety policies, standards, and documentation.

Change Management & Assurance

  • Review change proposals to ensure they meet safety requirements before they’re submitted to key governance groups (ETAP, SISG, and subgroups).
  • Track and log all change requests, making sure the Change Log is kept up to date.
  • Provide practical advice and support to teams across the business on how to follow the change management process correctly.
  • Monitor the progress of approved changes, working closely with project leads and technical experts to ensure safe delivery.

Regulatory Frameworks

  • Help review and interpret European, National, and Binational safety regulations, including Human and Organisational Factors (HOF), to make sure they’re properly reflected in Eurotunnel’s safety standards and practices.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proficiency in English is required, with the ability to communicate in French to an intermediate level (B2 or above) is essential.
  • Level 4 qualification (e.g. HNC, NVQ Level 4, or equivalent), or Level 3 with relevant experience.
  • Ideally, some familiarity with Safety and Quality Management Systems (e.g. ISO 45001, ISO 9001).
  • IOSH Managing Safely or similar safety training would be an advantage, but is not essential.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions within scope.
  • High computer literacy, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, and document management systems.
  • Comfortable adapting to new systems and digital tools.
  • Auditing skills (safety or quality) are an advantage, but not essential.
  • Experience in railway operations is desirable but not essential.
  • Able to represent the Safety Directorate’s views and understand technical input from internal and external stakeholders.
