The Planner and Depot Assistant Team Supervisor ensures effective workforce planning that aligns staffing levels with operational requirements, while adhering to fatigue, safety, and legal constraints. The role provides line management for the Depot Assistant team, drives consistency across planning processes, and acts as the key link between Depot Assistants and Day‑to‑Day Planners to support smooth operational delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Provide first‑line leadership to Depot Assistants, supporting their performance, wellbeing, and professional development.
- Maintain and update Depot Assistant reference instructions, ensuring annual reviews and alignment with operational changes.
- Plan and schedule operational staff across departmental roles, balancing traffic demands, workload, qualifications, and roster rules from long‑term to D‑1 planning stages.
- Manage live roster adjustments for Train Crew duties, selecting the most cost‑effective and operationally appropriate solutions using available planning tools.
- Coordinate the deployment of poly‑qualified staff to meet operational requests and maintain skill levels.
- Monitor and manage short‑ and long‑term sickness coverage within rosters to ensure service continuity.
- Develop and manage the Freight Bus team timetable.
- Request, track, and review agency staffing hours for the UK terminal.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A good level of education, to A‑Level or equivalent.
- Experience in a workforce planning environment is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Understanding of Train Crew, Passenger, or Freight operations is helpful.
- Supervisory experience is desirable but not essential.
- English/French language skills (at level I3 or equivalent) are beneficial.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work proactively both independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
- A positive attitude, adaptable to organisational change.
