We’re looking for a Senior Android Engineer to help build mobile products that enable more people to discover Wise organically. This is a hands‑on product engineering role in our SEO Product team. We own mobile products that support organic growth, starting with the Wise Currency Converter app developing it into a best‑in‑class travel money companion. You’ll work closely with product, design, analytics, marketing and engineering from the earliest stages of an idea. We want someone who is comfortable shaping what we build, making technical decisions, and taking ownership from concept through to launch and iteration. The SEO Product team is working towards an ambitious goal: making customer acquisition eventually free. We’re building products that help millions of potential customers discover Wise organically and make better decisions about their money.
What will you be working on?
- Leading the rebuild and modernisation of the Wise Currency Converter app
- Architecting and building new mobile products from the ground up
- Working closely with iOS engineers to build products across both platforms, maintaining a high bar for quality and keeping core features and customer experience aligned
- Working closely with product managers, designers, analysts, and other engineers to shape ideas, define requirements, and turn them into simple, high-quality customer experiences
- Owning Android development end‑to‑end, from technical design through implementation, release, and iteration
- Owning the observability and reliability of the app, including incident management and working hours support
- Making architecture decisions and helping define APIs where needed to support product development
- Providing technical guidance through thoughtful code review and collaboration
- Contributing to a strong engineering culture through knowledge sharing and high standards for quality, delivery, and maintainability
- Mentoring engineers in the team and contributing to our engineering hiring process
What do you need?
- Strong experience building and shipping Android applications in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
- Experience owning technical decisions and designing architecture for mobile products
- Ability to take ambiguous product ideas and turn them into clear technical plans and incremental milestones
- Strong product judgment, with the ability to use customer insight and data to inform decisions and challenge assumptions
- Experience working closely with cross‑functional partners such as product, design, analytics, and backend engineering
- Commitment to writing testable, maintainable code and holding a high bar for engineering quality
- Experience with software architecture patterns commonly used in Android development
- Understanding of REST API design, including the ability to help shape API contracts where needed
- Confidence working autonomously and taking ownership of delivery end‑to‑end
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation and diagrams
- Experience with end‑to‑end “BRO” ownership of software – Build it, Run it, Own it, including observability and reliability
It would be a bonus if you also have:
- Experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions
- Experience with observability tooling and practices
- Experience working with experimentation and using product signals to guide iteration
- Experience building accessible, high‑quality mobile experiences
- Interest in AI‑assisted coding tools such as Cursor or Claude Code
- Experience collaborating closely with iOS engineers on parallel mobile product development
First six months
- You’ve onboarded successfully and built a strong understanding of your team, squad, guild, and how you can contribute
- You’ve developed a good understanding of Wise, the fintech space, and how our product and engineering culture works
- You’ve made strong progress on the rebuild and modernisation of the Currency Converter app, with a clear path towards launch
- You’ve started owning technical decisions and delivery for Android work in the team
- You’ve gone through two quarterly planning cycles and contributed ideas that help shape the future of the product area
- You’ve contributed to hiring interviews
Why this role is exciting:
This is a rare opportunity to own an area from the ground up. You won’t just be implementing tickets in an established mobile surface. You’ll help rebuild an existing product, shape new app ideas, influence what gets built, and take real ownership of Android development in a team that sees mobile products as a meaningful lever for organic growth.
What you get back:
- RSU’s in a growing company
- An annual self‑development budget
- Statutory maternity leave, with a perk of 18 fully paid weeks of parental leave for birth or adoption
- Paternity leave for 18 weeks at full pay
- 3 fully paid ‘me days’ per year to help you manage life
- Relocation and visa expenses covered
- A paid 6‑week sabbatical leave after four years
